Rules

StarSpreads are a Sports Spread betting firm registered in Ireland at Unit 10E Enterprise Centre, Gorey Business Park, Ramstown, Gorey, County Wexford. Our company number is 475533.

All bets you place with Star Spreads Limited are governed by our Spread Betting Rules. These rules outline our acceptance and settlement criteria for general sports markets.  Individual sports rules contain conditions specific to that individual sport and in the event that there is a contradiction between both rules, the individual sports rule shall take precedence.

It is the responsibility of the client to ensure they are aware of rules, conditions and stipulations attached to markets offered.  Star Spreads staff will be happy to assist with any queries clients may have.  Information is supplied in good faith and Star Spreads will accept no liability for misinterpretation of information given or any inaccuracy of said information.

Placing Bets

Bets are placed on future events.

Any bet placed on any event where the result can already be known at the time of placing the bet whether open or closed can be voided at our absolute discretion.  This is regardless of whether or not the result was known to the client at the time of placing the bet.  With regard to ‘so fars’; any bet placed on an incorrect so far will be re-rated to reflect the correct ‘so far’ and ensure the bet is a bet placed on ‘the future’.  For example, on a football match traded live in running, you place a buy of £10 on corners at 11 with a ‘so far’ of 6.  The ‘so far’ in fact at the time of placing the bet was 7. Your bet was placed at 11 on a so far of 6, needing another 5 corners to break even.  Your bet would be re-rated to a buy at 12 to reflect the so far of 7, still needing 5 corners to break even.  In essence this is exactly the same bet, but reflects a bet on ‘the future’.  This is of course subject to our discretion to void any bet made on the basis of incorrect information.

Participation/Play after placing a bet.

Events must take place for a bet to stand.

If an event doesn’t take place all bets on the event open or closed shall be voided.

In an event which has begun but there is no further play following the placement of the bet, all bets whether open or closed shall be void.

Abandoned events

*Effects of abandonment of horse and greyhound meetings are covered by their specific sports rules*

When an event is abandoned:

Markets traded in running or at intervals:

  • Where the result of the market is known at the time of abandonment the market will be settled on the basis of that result.
  • Where the result is not known but there is a tradeable quote when play ceases, settlement will be made at the midpoint of the quote.
  • Where there is no tradeable quote when play ceases any bet open or closed will be void.
  • Where play is abandoned at an interval (like half time for example) and the market is to be updated (and is then updated), the first tradeable quote will be treated as the tradeable quote when play ceased for the purposes of this condition.

Markets not traded in running:

  • All bets will be void regardless of whether or not they have been settled.

Postponed events.

All bets placed after the last completed action in any event will be void, whether open or closed.

One day events.

Where an event is completed on the day scheduled, even if later than scheduled all bets will be settled and the later finish time will not affect these settlements.  Where an event is not completed within 24 hours of the scheduled completion day, all bets which have not made up (open or closed) shall be void. The exception is a market traded in running or at intervals, in which case the market will be settled at the midpoint of the first updated tradeable quote following the last action to take place in the event.  Where provision had been made in advance to complete a match (like a one-day cricket match) at a later date in the event of rain or something else; this event will still be treated as having to be completed within one day.

Events over two or more days.

Where an event is scheduled to be completed over two or more days but is not completed within three months of the completion date, all bets which have not made up (open or closed) shall be void. The exception is a market traded in running or at intervals, in which case the market will be settled at the midpoint of the first updated tradeable quote following the last action to take place in the event in that three month period.

Participation/Non-Participation

All bets placed on a participant who takes no part in the event whether open or closed will be void.

All bets placed on a participant who takes no further part in the event after the bet has been placed whether open or closed will be void. The exceptions to this are where the participant’s make up can be affected by the performance of another participant who does take further part after the bet has been placed.  Also, in the case of entertainment/other indices where a participant has been voted out or evicted quotes will continue to be available to trade on up until the final result is known.

Where a bet is placed on a participant who gets a walkover to the next round, that bet will be rebooked at the next tradeable price to reflect their progress.

The withdrawal of a named participant from an event prior to the start of the event will result in bets on all other participants in the event being subject to the spread betting version of Tattersalls Rule 4 (Deductions in Horse racing following non-runners).

Name changes by participants which do not affect the event on which the market is based will not affect any bets on that market.

Curtailment of Long-Term Markets

If a long term market has been curtailed and no further play is possible then all bets placed after last completed action whether open or closed, will be void.  The following will apply to all other bets placed on the curtailed long term market.

a)      If an official result is declared, then markets will be settled on the official result

b)      If there is no official result declared, then all bets still open will be settled at the midpoint of the quote immediately after the last completed play of the tournament.

c)       Closed bets will stand

Where further play is possible, for instance one team is ejected from a league or is unable to fulfil its remaining fixtures for whatever reason then the market is still considered curtailed as the league cannot continue as originally advertised.  A change to the number of participants or games will result in the market being deemed to have been curtailed.   Again in this instance:

All bets still open will be settled at the midpoint of the quote immediately after the last completed play of the tournament before the announcement of the change.  Closed bets will stand.  Any and all bets placed after last completed action before the announcement of the change whether open or closed, will be void.  Once again, name changes to clubs arising from takeovers or mergers or whatever will not affect a long term market as long as the newly named club fulfil original fixture commitments.

Disqualification

With the nature of sport and the markets we offer, from time to time one or more participants in a market will be disqualified.  Should this happen there are a number of things to note; firstly, disqualification will be deemed to have taken place at the time the incident occurred that led to disqualification, not when the participant is removed from the competition. Secondly, the disqualified participant will finish ahead of any participant who was eliminated before their disqualification.  Finally, regardless of their position at the time of disqualification, the disqualified participant will be deemed to have finished last of all the remaining participants still competing in the event.

Settling Events

Results

When settling a market the official result is final.  We will use all publicly available information/evidence to determine the official result.  If no official result is available, we will ask an independent authority to make a ruling on the result; their decision will be final.  In the event that the independent authority is unable to do so, we will determine the result, again by using all publicly available information/evidence.

In Grand Prix racing the podium position and in Athletics the medal ceremony will be classed as the official result.  Any similar ceremony in any other sport will also be deemed to be the official result.

Bets may be provisionally settled after an event using all publicly available information/evidence.  If this settlement differs from the official result (once it is known), then the settlement may be adjusted to reflect the official result.

Final settlement of events

For events scheduled to be completed in one day, markets will be settled within 3 days of the event end date.  For events scheduled to be completed in 2 or more days, markets will be settled as soon as possible after the event has finished.  No changes will be made to make ups of markets after their final settlement.

Other things to Note

Time related bets

A bet on an event will have a time related factor.  For example a football match is 90 minutes and markets offered on a football match are offered on the basis of what happens in the 90 minutes.  On these individual events injury time will be included but not extra time. The exceptions to this are certain American Sports (where overtime is needed to determine a result). These are covered in rules for American Sports.

Within these events there are time related markets, like the length of time until a specific thing occurs. Bets on these markets will be settled as if the specific thing happened at the end of the unit of time in which it occurred.  For example a goal scored after 31 minutes and 18 seconds will be deemed to have been scored in the 32nd minute.   A bet on the duration of a boxing match in minutes, where the match has ended after 7 minutes and 33 seconds will be made up at 8 minutes (the match will be deemed to have been 8 minutes long).   If an event occurs after scheduled time it will still be deemed to have happened at the end of scheduled time.  For example, a goal scored 3 minutes into injury time at the end of the first half will still be deemed to have been scored in the 45th minute.  A goal in football or gaelic football, a try in rugby or a touchdown in American Football will be deemed to have been scored on the blowing of the whistle immediately following the ball crossing the line or being touched down regardless of any subsequent referral to a linesman, umpire or third party.

Shirt Numbers – Maximum and Minimum

Markets are offered in a variety of sports pertaining to competitor’s shirt numbers when the competitor achieves a desired result (eg. gets booked, scores a try or goal or touchdown) In these markets the maximum singular shirt number is 100. Any competitor wearing a number greater than 100 will be deemed to be wearing 100. The minimum shirt number is 0.

Markets on groups of matches

Markets will frequently be offered on a group of matches (for instance Total Goals on all weekend Premier League fixtures).  Where we offer such markets, if 50% of the matches within the group aren’t completed, all bets are void.  If one or more (but less than 50%) of the matches are cancelled or postponed the price will be adjusted by the midpoint of the market at the time the match was postponed/cancelled.  If a match within the group of matches is abandoned during play, the midpoint at the time of abandonment will be used.  This will be the case, regardless of whether these matches are rescheduled.

Stipulations within Markets

We will offer certain markets which have stipulations attached.  If the stipulations attached to markets are not met then any bets on the market whether open or closed shall be void.  For instance, in a Test Series a bet on batsman’s runs will only stand if the batsman plays in at least 2 test matches.  It is the responsibility of the client to ensure they are aware of stipulations attached to markets offered.

Enhanced Match Betting

Match bets will regularly be offered where points are awarded to the winner and bonus points are awarded for the margin of victory.  For certain sports (see individual sports rules) there is a maximum make up for these markets. However, with the exception of these the maximum margin of victory will be as if one participant won every component of the match.  If a player is disqualified or withdraws, settlement will be based on the same criteria as traditional match bets on the same sport.   In the event that extra play is required to determine the winner (over the originally scheduled play – eg. Extra holes in Golf) the winner will receive the points to be allocated for winning but no bonus points. For instance in an 18 hole match bet, (with 10 points for the winner and 3 points per hole won by) which is won on the 20th hole, the winner will receive 10 points.

Football

Individual matches

Unless otherwise stated, bets on individual matches are for the scheduled 90 minutes plus injury time only.  Extra time markets may be introduced at the end of 90 minutes if necessary.  If a match is moved to a different venue from that which was scheduled; all bets will stand unless the new venue is the ground of either team involved; in this case all bets whether open or closed will be void.

Goal times

In a goalless draw the time of the first match goal will be settled at 90.  The time of the last match goal will be settled at 0. Where goals are scored, the goal times will be settled in accordance to the television broadcaster.  If the game is not televised or if the game is covered by more than one broadcaster and they are in disagreement then the goal time will be settled in accordance with general sports rule ‘Settling Events’

Corner Markets

We offer a variety of markets based on corners in a match.  These include but are not exclusive to corners, cross corners  and multi corners. These markets are settled in accordance with the general sports rule ‘Settling Events’

Bookings Markets

Again these markets are settled in accordance with the general sports rule ‘Settling Events’.  Provisional settlement of bookings markets may occur after a match has ended and this can be altered if the official result differs provided the official result is available within the settlement timeframe laid out in general sports rule ‘Final settlement of events’.  If a red card is rescinded or downgraded to yellow after the final whistle, this will not affect the settlement of any markets involving bookings.  Only bookings of players who are on the field after the whistle to start the match and until they leave the pitch for the last time (half time is included) will count in any market involving bookings. Bookings received by players after the final whistle, before the game has started or after they have been substituted do not count. Bookings of any non-playing member of a team will not count. The maximum points a player can receive is 35. A player receiving two yellows and a red will be deemed to have received one yellow and one red. A player shown a yellow card whilst not on the field who then comes on as a substitute, receives a second yellow and a red will be deemed to have received a red card only.  Markets related to times of red or yellow cards will be settled at the time the card is shown not the time the incident occurred leading to the card.

Performance Markets

For in play matches performance markets may be offered (Match Performance, Team performances and team mini performances).  The individual components of these markets will be determined by the rules set out here for each individual component (bookings, corners etc)

Shirt Numbers

Where a market is offered on aggregate shirt numbers the following will apply:

  • If an own goal is scored, the shirt number will be awarded to the team who was awarded the goal.
  • If a player is wearing a shirt with no number or a different number to the shirt they started (or came on as substitute) with, the number of their original shirt will apply to any shirt number market.
  • If a player starts a game or comes on as a substitute with a numberless shirt, they will be deemed to be wearing number 12.
  • In the event of doubt about a goal scorer, the opinion of the television broadcaster will be taken.  If there is disagreement within the broadcasting channel or if there is more than one broadcaster and they contradict each other, or if the game isn’t televised then the scorer will be determined in accordance with the general sports rule ‘Settling Events’.

Player goal minutes

Own goals do not count towards an individual player’s goal minutes.  Again, in the event of doubt about a goal scorer, the opinion of the television broadcaster will be taken.  If there is disagreement within the broadcasting channel or if there is more than one broadcaster and they contradict each other, or if the game isn’t televised then the scorer will be determined in accordance with the general sports rule ‘Settling Events’.  Any player goal minutes bets placed before the start of a match will be void if the player doesn’t start the match. The same applies to PGM bets placed at half time if the player fails to start the second half.

Abandoned Matches

The same rules apply to football matches as set out in the general sports rules ‘Abandoned events’.

When a football match is abandoned:

Markets on matches traded in running:

  • Where the result of the market is known at the time of abandonment the market will be settled on the basis of that result.
  • Where the result is not known but there is a tradeable quote when play ceases, settlement will be made at the midpoint of the quote.
  • Where there is no tradeable quote when play ceases any bet open or closed will be void.
  • Where play is abandoned at an interval (like half time for example) and the market is to be updated (and is then updated), the first tradeable quote will be treated as the tradeable quote when play ceased for the purposes of this condition.

Markets on matches not traded in running:

  • All bets will be void regardless of whether or not they have been settled.

Tournament Markets

Where we offer markets (yellow cards, corners, goals etc) that cover an entire tournament (eg The World Cup), extra time will be ignored; unless otherwise stated.  What happens in 90 minutes and injury time only will count for the purpose of these markets.

Divisional Season Points and Indices

Only points gained on the field of play will count towards season total points. Any points deductions made from a team’s total will have no effect on season points, whether these are deducted before, during or after the season.  A season index, whether championship or relegation, will be decided on a team’s final finishing position.  Therefore points deductions (if any) will come into play.  An appeal against a points deduction will be disregarded unless it has been settled before the final game in the division in question has been played.

Horse Racing

Top of the Card

This is a market based on the performance of the horse with race card number one in each race.  These horses will be awarded 25 points for a win, 10 for finishing second and 5 for finishing third and the quote offered is based on these criteria unless otherwise stated.  Bets on this market are governed by the same principals as bets on Favourites Index.

Double Numbers

A market based on the total of all the winner horse numbers multiplied by 2.

Distances (Winning, 2 to 3s and 1 to 3s)

Winning distance is based on the distance in lengths between the first and second placed horses. Other distance markets are based on the distance in lengths between the named horses (2nd to 3rd or 1st to 3rd).  The maximum between two horses for these markets in a flat race is 12 lengths and in a National hunt race is 30 lengths. This includes where a horse finishes alone. This differs from the maximum distance in a National Hunt match bet (15 lengths) which you will find below.  Where only two horses finish a race then 2nd to 3rd will be maximum make up for that race (30 or 12). The same applies to 2nd to 3rd’s where only two horses start a race.  1st to 3rd distances will be winning distances added to 2nd to 3rd distances.  For all distances below one length whether in a distance market or a match bet, the following distances are awarded.

Three Quarters of a length 0.75
Half a length 0.5
Neck 0.3
Short Neck 0.25
Head 0.2
Short Head 0.1
Nose 0.05

Favourites

This is a market offered on the performance of the favourites in every race at a meeting.  Again horses in this market will be awarded 25 points for a win, 10 for finishing second and 5 for finishing third and the quote offered is based on these criteria unless otherwise stated.  In the case of joint or co-favourites the horse with the lowest race card number will be considered favourite for the purposes of this market.  If a returned favourite (listed in the following day’s tabloid edition of the Racing Post) hasn’t come under starters orders then points will be awarded as follows; 5 points if the price at time of withdrawal is 5/1 or greater, 10 points if it is less than 5/1 but greater than even money and 15 points if it is even money or less.  In the case of the last race, if the favourite doesn’t come under starter’s orders then in line with our generally sporting rules, bets placed on favourites after the second last race will be void.  If no starting price is returned then the betting forecast in the tabloid edition of the Racing Post will be used to determine the favourite. The shortest priced horse in the betting forecast to come under starter’s orders will be deemed to be favourite.

Racing Post Favourites

A market based on favourites as named in the forecast betting in the day’s tabloid edition of the Racing Post newspaper (not betting shop copy, not tablet or online copy and not racingpost.com) The same scoring criteria is used as with favourites with the exception of joint or co-racingpost favourite. In this case the first named horse in the day’s tabloid edition of the Racing Post newspaper (not betting shop copy, not tablet or online copy and not racingpost.com) will be deemed to be favourite.

Jockey Index

A market based on the performance of a jockey’s initial mounts at a particular meeting (based on his booked rides as listed in the day’s tabloid edition of the Racing Post newspaper (not betting shop copy, not tablet or online copy and not racingpost.com).  Again horses in this market will be awarded 25 points for a win, 10 for finishing second and 5 for finishing third and the quote offered is based on these criteria unless otherwise stated.  If a jockey is originally booked to ride a horse (as per day’s tabloid edition of the Racing Post newspaper) but doesn’t ride it and the horse still runs then the original listed jockey will be deemed to have ridden the horse for the purposes of this market.  On the other hand, if a jockey picks up another ride outside his original listings in the day’s tabloid edition of the Racing Post newspaper (not betting shop copy, not tablet or online copy and not racingpost.com) then this will not count towards that new jockey’s index.   If a jockey has an non-runner that did not have a betting show then the betting forecast in the tabloid edition of the Racing Post (not betting shop copy, not tablet or online copy and not racingpost.com) will be used to determine the price and again points will be awarded as follows; 5 points if the price is 5/1 or greater, 10 points if it is less than 5/1 but greater than even money and 15 points if it is even money or less.   Again, in the case of the last race, if the named jockey’s horse doesn’t come under starter’s orders then in line with our generally sporting rules, bets placed on that jockey’s index after the second last race will be void.

Starting Prices

This is a market based on the starting prices of all the winning horses at a meeting.  The maximum starting price for any one race is 100. Where the SP of a winning horse is greater than 100/1, 100 points will be allocated. All non-whole SPs will be rounded to 1 decimal places. 1 point will be awarded to this market in a race where no SP is returned.

Individual Race Index

This is an index where you can bet on the performance of a horse in an individual race.  If a horse offered in the market fails to come under starter’s orders then bets on all other horses on the market are subject to the spread betting version of Tattersall’s Rule 4. The midpoint (at the time of the withdrawal) of the withdrawn horse will be taken from the points awarded for each position on the index by a proportionate amount (relative to the midpoint of the withdrawn horse).  For example in a 50-30-20-10 index a horse with a midpoint of 11 is withdrawn.  With (50+30+20+10) 110 points available, this will be reduced by 11 (or 10%) leaving the new market;  45-27-18-9.

Match Bets

This is a market we offer about the distance between two individual horses in a race.  The maximum distance in a national hunt match bet is 15 lengths and the maximum in a flat match bet is 12 lengths.  The market will be settled on the official distances of that race as long as the horses involved take and complete the correct course.  If one horse in the match bet fails to take the correct course the other horse will have won by the maximum distance.  If both horses take the wrong course all bets whether open or closed are void.  If one horse fails to finish the course, the other will be deemed to have won by the maximum distance.  If both horses fail to finish all bets whether open or closed are void.   If a horse in a match bet fails to come under starter’s orders then all bets whether open or closed are void.  If there is a stewards’ enquiry that leads to the disqualification of one of the horses due to taking an incorrect course, this will lead to a maximum distance win for the other horse.  A change in official distance from a stewards’ enquiry or review will also affect the match bet make up, as long as any enquiry or review happens on the day of the race.  Disqualifications or amendments, other than for the reasons mentioned will not affect match bets.  Neither will enquiries or reviews that happen after the day of the race.  If there is no official distances declared the match bet will be settled by applying 2 lengths to every position between the horses involved up to the maximum distance allowed.

Dead Heats

If there is a Dead Heat involving 2 or more horses then starting prices will be the average of how many horses are involved in the dead heat.  If 3 horses dead heat for first with SP’s of 8/1, 12/1 and 25/1 then the winning SP will be 15/1 (8+12+25)/3 or (45/3). There will be zero winning distances where the race has dead heated for first place.

Void Races

Where there are no finishers in a race it will be deemed to be a void race.

Where a race is declared void, for our daily markets, points will be awarded for that race as follows:

Top of the Card – Points will be awarded as per non-runner rules on our jockey index

Double Numbers – The number of runners declared for that race

Distances – Flat race: 2 lengths, National Hunt race: 10 lengths

Distances 2nd – 3rd – Flat race: 2 lengths, National Hunt race: 10 lengths

Favourites and Racing Post Favourites – Points will be awarded as per non-runner rules on our jockey index

Starting Prices – Half the number of declared runners at the time the race was void

Match bets and Individual horse indices will be void.

Abandoned Meetings

As long as the first race has been completed, all bets on daily markets will stand and will be settled at the midpoint of the first available quote after the last race to take place before the meeting was abandoned.  If races on the card are cancelled then points for these races will be allocated as per the void races rule as long as these cancelled races were due to take place before the last completed race prior to abandonment.  If they were due to take place after the last race before abandonment then points won’t be awarded as they will already be built in to the midpoint used for settlement.  Again, all bets placed after the last completed race prior to abandonment whether open or closed will be void. If a meeting is abandoned before racing then all bets open or closed are void.  If one or more meeting is abandoned then these rules will apply to our aggregate daily markets (daily markets across all meetings for a day/festival) where offered.

Walkovers

The following will only come into play where we have already begun quoting a market where the subsequent withdrawal of a horse has led to a walkover:

Double Numbers – Number of the horse walking over; doubled

Distances and Distances 2nd – 3rd  – National Hunt race 12 lengths, Flat Race 5 lengths. Note: Where there were only 2 horses when the original market was being quoted 2nd – 3rd distances will already have been allocated 12 for a Flat race and 30 for a National Hunt race

Favourites – Favourite allocated points as if it were winner

Starting Prices – 1 point

Where it is known that there will be a walkover in a race before markets are priced up, the walkover will be excluded from all markets.

Greyhounds

Most greyhound markets offered operate on the same principals as the equivalent horse racing market.  Differences are below.  For the purposes of our greyhound markets re-run races count as Void.

Multi Traps

This is a market offered where we multiply the trap numbers of the winner and second placed dog in the race. Eg 2 beats 3 = 6.  In a void 6 dog race 12 points will be allocated to this market, in a void 8 dog race the allocation will be 20.

Favourite Index and Racing Post Favourite Index

Where a favourite or RP favourite does not run or a race is void then the favourite or RP favourite is allocated the points for second place

Match Bets

Maximum distance is 10 lengths

Distances

Where we offer distances a void race will carry an allocation of 2 lengths.  Again max distance is 10 lengths

Individual race index

If a reserve runs in place of a non-runner rule 4 will be applied.  The reserve will not count for the purposes of the index

Tennis

Individual matches

If a player retires or is disqualified during a match traded live in play then the match will be deemed to have been abandoned and the settlement will occur in line with the General Sports Rule ‘Abandoned Events’.

If a player retires or is disqualified during a match not traded live in play then the following settlement rules apply which will over-ride General Sports Rule ‘Abandoned Events’ .  Match supremacy will be settled by awarding the remaining sets needed for the other player to win the match and go through to the next round.   For example if a player retires in the second set at 1-0 up then the other player will be deemed to have won 3-1.

If a match is reduced in length for another reason other than a player retiring or being disqualified then all bets open or closed will be void.

Rugby League and Union

Rugby Union Player Try Minutes

Players need to start the match for Player Try Minutes bets to count.

Rugby League Player Try Minutes

Bets on players starting on the bench will count as long as the player takes some part in the match ie. They must come on to the pitch.

Hotshots

If a player listed in the ‘Hotshots’ market does not take part in the match, they will be allocated 8 points for the purposes of this market.  If none of the listed players take part then all bets on the market will be void.

Penalty Try

In Rugby Union a penalty try will contribute 8 to Shirt Numbers.  In Rugby League, if a penalty try is awarded then the shirt number will be that of the player to whom the penalty try is awarded or the player who would have scored the try.  In the event that no player is awarded the penalty try then the try will contribute 7 to Shirt Numbers.

Shirt Numbers

In the event that there is a debate as to who scored a try then we will follow the rules laid out in ‘Football Shirt Numbers’.  A player will be deemed to be wearing the number of the shirt which they originally wore when they started the match or which they wore when they came on as substitute.  If a player wasn’t wearing a shirt at the beginning or when they came on, they will be deemed to be wearing the shirt number allocated on the team sheet.  If they are not named in the team sheet then in Union they will be awarded 16 and in League 14. If a player is wearing a letter on their shirt then they will be allocated the number relative to that letter.  (A to Z, A=1, Z=26)

Named Try Scorers

This is where we offer markets related to the identity of a try scorer.  If a named player takes no part in a match (80 minutes plus injury time) then that player will generally receive a points allocation for that market unless otherwise stated.  In markets pertaining to named try scorers, a penalty try will not count in Rugby Union unless the broadcaster decides to award the penalty try to a specific player.  In Rugby League a penalty try will be credited to the player to whom the penalty try is awarded or the player who was going to score the try.  In the event that a penalty try is not awarded to a specific player then that try will not count.

Cricket

Innings Runs

Limited Overs Matches – Where a match is traded in play and there is a reduction in overs or the innings is curtailed, bets will be settled at the midpoint of the last tradeable quote before the reduction in overs.  A new market will be formed if the innings resumes at a later time but has become subject to a reduction.  Clients who wish to trade following the reduction will be expected to open a new position on the reformed market.  These rules will apply again if there is a further reduction in overs.  If there is no tradeable quote or a market is not traded in running then any bet on the market open or closed will be void.

Other Matches – All bets open or closed are void if a full 50 overs is not bowled, unless a team has already won, or declared or has been dismissed before the 50 overs has been completed.

Batsmen Runs

Limited Overs Matches– Where a match is traded in play and there is a reduction in overs or the innings is curtailed, bets will be settled at the midpoint of the last tradeable quote before the reduction in overs. The same rules will apply to 25 Ups, 50 Ups and Partnerships.  In the case of bets on partnerships, these will make up after the fall of the next wicket and are treated as having ended at the end of an innings. If one member of a partnership retires injured, the partnership will be deemed to be intact and the bet will continue to run with the remaining batsman and the batsman who comes to wicket.

Other Matches – All bets open or closed are void if a full 50 overs is not bowled, unless a team has already won, or declared or has been dismissed before the 50 overs has been completed.  The same applies to Partnerships.  Again, in the case of bets on partnerships, these will make up after the fall of the next wicket and are treated as having ended at the end of an innings. If one member of a partnership retires injured, the partnership will be deemed to be intact and the bet will continue to run with the remaining batsman and the batsman who comes to wicket.

Supremacy and First Innings Supremacy

Limited Overs Matches – This is a market based on the margin of victory of one team over another with points awarded for the number of runs or wickets won by. This market will be settled on the ‘official result’ regardless of whether the scheduled number of overs for one or both sides is reduced.  If the match is abandoned and an ‘official result’ is declared by the relevant authority with reference to the ‘Duckworth-Lewis’ method or any other method they choose, then this will be used to settle the supremacy market.   If there is no official result following an abandonment, then in line with our general sports rules for a match traded live in play bets will be settled at the midpoint of the last tradeable quote when play stops.  For a match not traded in running all bets whether opened or closed will be void.  If a match ends in a draw then supremacy will be settled at zero without exception.

Other Matches (First Innings Supremacy)

For bets to stand on this market 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings have to start.  For the avoidance of doubt, at least one ball must be bowled in the 3rd Innings.  The exception to this rule is if a match is abandoned after the team which batted second has been bowled out before the start of the 3rd Innings.  A declaration by the team batting second does not count as being bowled out.

Innings Increments

Limited overs Matches – Markets may be offered on sections of an innings like first 15 overs in a 50 over match and first 6 overs in a 20 overs match.  In the event that a match is abandoned prior to these specified overs being finished, where a match is traded live in running bets will be settled at the midpoint of the last tradeable quote prior to match being abandoned. If there is no quote or the match is not traded live in running then all bets open or closed are void.

Bets on team to win match – Binary bets

Limited Overs Matches – These markets are settled on the official result. If a match is declared a ‘no result’ bets will ,if the market is being traded in-play, settled at the midpoint of the quote at the time at which play ceases;.
If due to weather or another external factor a match is affected but is not declared a ‘no result’, bets will be settled based on the governing body’s official competition rule including Duckworth-Lewis method.

If a one day or T20 match is a tie, as long as no winner is declared under the governing body’s competition rules then both sides will settle at 50 on the binary markets (ie. dead heat rules will apply).  If the competition rules determine a winner via a Super Over for example then the winner will receive 100 and the losing team 0.

Other Matches – In a Test match or County Championship match where both teams finish on the same score after all innings have been completed (ie the match is tied) then the draw will be settled at 0 and deemed to be a loser. Dead heat rules will apply to bets on both teams with regard the outright result and will be settled at 50.

Retired Batsmen

If a batsman retires and doesn’t take the field to bat again in the same innings, the market on his runs will be settled at the number of runs he has scored before retiring.

Batsmen mistakenly quoted and not coming in to bat

A batsman’s runs may be priced up on the assumption that they are coming to the crease to bat next or even opening the innings.   From time to time a different batsman to the one quoted will come in to bat.  Any bets struck during this period on the batsman mistakenly quoted and not coming in to bat will be void.

Player Performance Index

Super Overs do not count when it comes to player performance markets.  These markets are beased on the overall performance of a player in a match.  If a player takes no part in a match then all bets open or closed are void.  If we offer a performance match bet between two players then if one of those players takes no part in the match all bets whether open or closed are void.  In the event that an official result is not declared all bets open or closed are void, unless the player has batted and fielded prior to the abandonment and the bet has already made up.

Match Bets between Batsmen

For match bets based on the batting performance of two players to stand, both players must have gone in to bat and while they have been in to bat at least one ball must have been bowled in the innings concerned.  They do not necessarily have to face a ball but one must be bowled while they are in to bat.

Declaration

Any bet placed after the final ball has been delivered before a declaration is made will be void in line with our general sporting rule ‘Events must take place for a bet to stand’

Adjustments

If an official adjustment is made to innings runs or batsman’s runs after the innings has finished, this adjustment will be included in our settlement of the relevant market.  We may also re-book any bet taken after the adjustment to reflect the correct ‘so far’ in line with general sporting rule ‘Bets are placed on future events’

Markets Not traded Live in Running

Super Overs do not count for these markets.  As long as there is an official result bets on these markets will stand.  Where there is no official result bets will stand if they have already made up, otherwise they will be void.

Long Term Markets

Many of our Long Term markets have stipulations attached.  These will be located in the info section of the market.  It is a client’s responsibility to make themselves aware of all conditions attached to a specific market as all conditions will have to be met for a bet to stand.  If all conditions attached to a bet are not satisfied then that bet whether open or closed will be void.

A bet placed on a player who takes no further part in the match after the bat has been placed whether open or closed will be void.   The exception to this is where it is stipulated in the market when it is formed.

Provision is sometimes made for a limited overs match which has been abandoned to start again on a reserve day.  Where this happens all long term markets will be allocated points, runs and wickets based on the last match that starts.  However, if no official result is achieved markets that have been given allocations for abandoned matches will be settled as per their allocation.

Official Result

As with other sports we will use all information available to us to determine the official result where it is being determined using the Duckworth-Lewis method or another mathematic formula.  The official Television broadcaster of the match will be the official adjudicator unless their opinion differs from all other publicly available information.  If this is the case then www.espncricinfo.com will be the official adjudicator.

Golf

Match Bets

If neither player completes their round (whether through withdrawal or disqualification or any other reason)in a strokeplay  or matchplay match bet then all bets are void.  In line with our general sporting rules, any bets placed on a match bet where a player takes no further part after the bet has been placed will be void.  If a player incurs a penalty it will only affect a match bet if it is announced before that player commences his next round.

Match Bets 36 Holes and Under

The maximum margin of victory in a strokeplay match is 15 shots (MU 55), in a matchplay match over 18 holes it’s 10 holes (MU 40) and matchplay over 36 holes it’s 19 holes (MU 67).  If a player withdraws during a match or is disqualified during or after then in strokeplay and matchplay  a match makes up with a 5 shot/hole victory to the opposing player (MU 25).

Match Bets for more than 36 Holes

The maximum make up is 25 shots.  If a player withdraws during a match or is disqualified during or after then the match bet makes up with a 10 shot victory to the opposing player (MU 10).  If either or both miss the cut then both scores are doubled at that stage.  The same applies where either or both players have made the cut but are not allowed to take any further part in subsequent rounds for whatever reason.  There will be a settlement made pro rata where the number of rounds differs from the original advertised 4 or where the cut takes place at another stage other than half way.  Nothing that happens to a player nor anything a player does in subsequent rounds (including disqualification) can affect the makeup of a match where settlement has been made following the cut.

Finishing Positions

Settlement will be made in this market based on a player’s exact finishing position.  Where there is a tie between more than one player for a position the average finishing position will apply to all players.  For example if 5 players tie for 6th place then they will all be deemed to have finished 8th ((6+7+8+9+10)/5 =8).  The exception will be where there is a tie for first place.  In this case the winner of the playoff will be awarded first.  Average settlement will be used for all other players involved in the playoff regardless of when they were eliminated from the playoff. (ie all other players involved in the playoff will be joint second and average settlement will apply).

If a players starts an event and withdraws, retires or is disqualified then they will make up at 70 (in our max 70 finishing positions).  If a player withdraws, retires or is disqualified following the cut then they will make up at the number of players who made the cut (with a max settlement of 70 in our max 70 finishing positions).  In line with our general sporting rules, any bets placed on a player who doesn’t start the first round or takes no further part after the bet has been placed will be void.   If a player has made the cut but is not allowed to take any further part in subsequent rounds for whatever reason, then their finishing position will be settled in accordance with the official result (with a max settlement of 70 in our max 70 finishing positions).  With our maximum make up finishing positions the same rules apply except with a withdrawal, retirement or disqualification the player involved will be deemed to have finished last of the remaining golfers in the field.

Tournament Index

The spread betting version of Tattersalls Rule 4 will apply if a golfer fails to start a tournament.  This will be based on the midpoint of their price at the start of the tournament.  If a players starts an event and withdraws, retires or is disqualified they will have finished behind all other players still involved in the tournament at that time.  If prices are updated on a player after they have finished one or more rounds, and bets on the player at the new price will be void, whether open or closed if that player takes no further part in the tournament for whatever reason.

Reduced  Tournaments

Official result will be used to settle all bets related to a finishing position.  If a player starts but withdraws, retires or is disqualified then settlement of a match bet involving that player will be based on the original scheduled rounds not the reduced number.  If a cut changes from the original scheduled then settlement for all markets will be based on the original cut that the bets were based on pre-tournament.  A player will be deemed to have made the cut if they make the original cut regardless of whether or not they make the newly applied cut.  Hotshot markets will be settled as per the official result.  If no official result is declared all bets open or closed on Hotshot markets will be void.

Hotshots

All players in the ‘hotshots’ group must start for bets to stand.  No averages applied for ties. A player who is tied for 5th with 5 other players will be awarded points for 5th.

Snooker

All bets on markets not traded live in play will be void if a match is not completed for any reason, regardless of whether or not the market has made up or regardless of the official result.

With bets on a market traded live in play, these will be settled at midpoint of the last tradeable quote.  Where a market traded live in play has already made up, this will be settled as is.

Performance Markets

Muffed punts don’t count as turnovers regardless of how they are recorded on the official NFL website.  Fumbled punts recovered by the kicking team count.  With a muffed punt the receiving team never had possession so there can have been no ‘turnover’.

Motor Racing

Scoring System

Markets will be settled in accordance with the scoring system we have laid out at the start of the season.  We will continue to use this scoring system to settle our Long Term markets even if the FIA change their scoring system at any stage during the season.

Participation

A driver or team only has to take part in one of the ‘Free Practice Sessions’ to be deemed to have taken part in a race weekend.  If a driver fails to qualify for a race for any reason they will be deemed to be a non-finisher and their race and qualifying performance will be settled as if they the first non-finisher (or next non-finisher if there is more than one non-qualifier).  Bets taken on a driver or a team who take no further part in a race weekend after the bet has been struck will be void.

Podium Positions

Podium positions are final for settlement of individual races

Abandonment or Curtailment

All bets open or closed will be void if a race is abandoned or curtailed and there is no podium ceremony (ie no official result).  If an official result is declared, markets will be settled with reference to the official result.  In these circumstances, if reduced points are awarded following the official result, these reduced points will be allocated to the Long Term markets

Race Result, Classified finishers, Specials and Winning Margins

These are settled in accordance with the official results.  Winning margin is settled by reference to when the first and second cars cross the line.  Nothing that happens after this will affect the winning margin.  Only one finisher will result in the winning margin being settled at the maximum stipulated.  A classified finisher is a finisher who has completed 90% of the distance covered by the winner and has been given a classified finishing position in the official results.

Qualifying

These markets will be settled on the fastest lap time in qualifying.  No penalties will affect these markets regardless of when they are applied.

Long Term Markets

There is no minimum number of races that a driver or constructor must take part in for bets on their long term (championship) indices to stand.  If a driver or constructor is penalised or excluded from their relevant championship prior to the podium ceremony of the last race, their markets will be settled with reference to the official standings.

There may be a minimum number of races required for a drivers’/constructors’ points bets to stand.  This will be laid out in the bet ‘info’ tab.  If a driver/constructor fails to enter the minimum number of races stipulated, all bets open or closed on that driver/constructor will be void.

Long term Markets and Abandonment

If a Grand Prix is abandoned then for the purposes of Long Term Markets this race will be disregarded as long as the number of races completed that season is not less than the number stipulated at the start of the season.  If the number completed is less than the number stipulated then the market will be adjusted pro rata.

Championship Markets

Indices based on drivers’ and constructors’ championships will be settled based on podium finishes for the last race and nothing that happens thereafter will affect the settlement of these markets.   Where there is a difference between the official points system and that which we use, for reasons outlined in the ‘FIA Rules’ section; the official points system will be used for Championship Markets.

Points Markets

Points based on drivers’ and constructors’ performance will be settled based on podium finishes for the last race and nothing that happens thereafter will affect the settlement of these markets.

FIA Rules

  • All rulings that affect any points (constructors, drivers or teams) will be reflected in our subsequent Long Term Points Market
  • Any exclusions from FIA points scoring will be reflected in our points scored markets.  Our markets will mirror FIA Championship standings.
