Tim Tebow: How Does He Do It!?

Really? How does he do it? He has played six games as a starter for Denver this year and he has gone 5 and 1, while orchestrating four game winning drives two of which came in overtime wins. I have to say unlike most ‘experts’ I thought that Tebow would be a reasonably good NFL quarterback, but I never thought that he would win 5 out of his first 6 starts for Denver.

My real question is how does a quarterback with a completion percentage that is under 50% win 5 out of 6 games? I mean you could argue that he rushes the ball for nearly 80 yards per game but is that really enough… I really can’t explain it.

The only statistic that I can see that is truly a solid stat is that he has thrown for 8 touchdowns with only 1 interception, which I have to say is a great touchdown to interception ratio. Perhaps this is the reason his completion percentage is so low; if he isn’t absolutely sure he just doesn’t throw it. Instead he tucks the ball, lowers his head and runs the ball for an average of nearly 7 yards. Not a bad philosophy for a rookie quarterback.

It is difficult to quantify how exactly he does it and certainly the Denver defence has had a big part to play in his success only allowing an average of 20 points per game while they allowed an average of 28 points per game in their previous five starts with Kyle Orton as quarterback.

However, I think that Tebow deserves some credit for rallying the defence; clearly Orton was not up to the task and Tebow has made them believe that if the defence can keep it close until the last quarter then he and his offense will win the game.

I hesitate to mention Tim Tebow in the same sentence as Ben Roethlisberger because Ben is in my opinion a much more experienced and talented quarterback, but having said that they both have a never lie down attitude and a will to win that every head coach dreams about in a quarterback.

Some people would argue that most starting quarterbacks in the NFL are more talented than Tim Tebow and perhaps if you were to just look at the stats in might appear this way, yet it seems that the Denver Broncos both offensively and defensively have rallied behind Tebow. It would appear that Tebow’s never give up attitude has rubbed off on the whole team and clearly they are all playing much better than they were at the beginning of the season.

All I know is that a team with a winning attitude is hard to beat and for Denver Tebow is clearly what they needed to give the team a chance at making the playoffs.

Whether you like Tim Tebow or hate him you have to respect his ability to make good decisions when the game is on the line. I think he is a winner and he has inspired the Broncos to be winners so despite the fact that there may be more talented quarterbacks in the NFL, I think Tebow is the right quarterback for a Denver team that clearly needed a winning attitude a leader to rally behind.
