The Claimer King at Dundalk tonight…

Ireland’s only all weather track, Dundalk, once again race this Friday evening with a seven race card featuring a wonderfully eclectic mix of maidens, claimers and extremely difficult to solve handicaps. A few points of order to consider before considering a bet on the card. Low numbers always do well in sprint races here particularly if they can establish an early lead. I know one judge who tells me he makes money by perming the best six drawn in these races in a complicated series of combination forecast and tricast bets.”There’s usually one or two races on the card for me,my bookmaker thinks I’m the greatest lamb of all time, let him always think that way !”

Leading jockeys at the venue include Johnny Murtagh, who makes his return from Dubai, Wayne Lordon, succesful aboard 7-1 chance Indian Scout at the last meeting and Shane Foley who racked up a nice 26-1 double here last Friday evening. Trainers to note include Ger Lyons ,Mick Halford who produced If Per Chance to win at 17-2 here last Friday and genial Eddie Lynam, who rarely leaves the venue empty handed. Incidentally were Eddie to play a part in The Great Escape no prizes for guessing he’d be known as the Claimer King, given his 67% strike rate in these races here at Dundalk.
A few trackfax to add to the equation now. The Paul Deegan three year old handicappers have a 25% strike rate here, a pointer perhaps to the chances of Mr Lando in the seven furlong race at 7.55.  Jockey Rory Cleary and trainer Jim Bolger have struck up a profitable relationship here at the track and a 40% strike rate suggests that their entry Heir To The Mint commands respect in the one mile handicap at 6.55.
Veteran trainer Frank Oakes has got a great tune out of Mountain Oaks over the last few years and this eight year looks for a fifth course and distance success in the six furlong handicap at 8.25.  Finally, the Harry Rogers trained Solo Performer looks for a sixth track win in the concluding twelve furlong race at 9.20. Any more wins and we might have a life size bronze of the horse commissioned for display in the parade ring !
