Masters Thoughts
Quick post today, with five golfers that I rather fancy for next week’s Masters, and five I’d be happy to take on.
5 to Keep Onside
1. Tiger Woods – Best Price 4-1. 4 time winner; winner of the last tour event; best player of all time. What more do you need for a bet?
2. Phil Mickelson – Best Price 12-1. 3 time winner; winner in the last month; took a few days off to rest and inexplicably drifted; loves the course.
3. Luke Donald – Best Price 14-1. Number 1 in the world; great temperament; criminally overlooked by the betting market.
4. Geoff Ogilvy – Best Price 100-1. High ball flight and great putting suits the fast greens of Augusta; great battler who has won a major already.
5. Brandt Snedeker – Best Price 80-1. A crazy price for a hugely talented golfer; won on tour this year; superb advanced metrics.
5 to Take On
1. Rory McIlroy – Best Price 5-1. Far too short for a guy who hasn’t won here; over-hyped and with a suspect temperament.
2. Adam Scott – Best Price 33-1. Always too short in the betting; one or two dominant performances every year but yet to win a major.
3. Rickie Fowler – Best Price 100-1. If he wasn’t young, didn’t have long hair and wear orange he’d be 1000-1.
4. Jason Day – Best Price 40-1. Hasn’t won anything; been placed in a few majors when the top boys weren’t around; doesn’t have the firepower.
5. Justin Rose – Best Price 33-1. Often starts strongly, so he might be one to lay after a decent start.
