Noisy Neighbours Get Louder

Monday night saw Manchester City return to the top of the Premier League table following a 1-0 win over local rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

The game was, fairly cagey to say the least, but that won’t bother Roberto Mancini one bit at all.

The victory on the night was in no small part thanks to City’s number 4, Vincent Kompany. The 6ft 3in defender was superb for the 90 minutes and his header on the stroke of half-time proved to be the match winner.

One quick glance at the stats after the game would suggest that United never really looked like getting anything on the night, and to be perfectly honest, the stats don’t lie. This was the first time a United side had failed to have an attempt on target in three years. Incredible.

That is largely down to City’s back four and one man in particular, Kompany, who was given the champagne by Sky Sports for a Man of the Match performance.

After the game, the Belgian went to address the waiting media and was joined by Liam Gallagher, one of City’s most famous fans. The former Oasis frontman was, naturally enough, full of praise for one of his heros, Kompany. “Viva La Belgium” Gallagher declarded, as the journalists looked on.

Liam also suggested that United boss, Alex Ferguson, had been “on the whisky.”

An incredible night which highlighted how important Kompany is to City. His performance was made all the better considering the fact he had been (wrongly, in my opinion) booked for a foul on Wayne Rooney mid-way through the first-half.

I can’t understand how Vincent was not even nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award. A simply magnificent footballer, who rarely moans and just gets on with the job. A simply magnificent footballer who will, all going to plan, be lifting the Premier League title in a couple of weeks.
