Top 5 Man UTD Players 1/2

Published On May 21, 2012 | By dominic | Alan

I thought I’d write today’s edition of this betting blog on the top 5 Manchester United players of my generation.

I know there are names that will not be on the list, such as the legends that are George Best, Bobby Charlton and Denis Law. But these players, as good as they were, are not from my generation (being a young 25 year old) and let’s face it, this is my blog. So I can include and exclude whoever I want.

My generation is the Premiership era. So in Part 1 of this two part mini-series on great United players, here are those in positions 5 and 4:

5. Roy Keane

Roy Keane played 480 games for Manchester United and put his heart and soul into every performance. I have never seen a more aggressive player who really wears his heart on his sleeve.

In my opinion he was the best captain the club has ever seen and he has yet to be replaced to this day. He won 7 Premier League titles, 4 F.A Cups, 4 Community Shields and let’s not forget the UEFA Champion’s League in the 1998-1999 season.

Roy really embodied what it is to be a Manchester United player and it filled me with pride to watch him play with the passion he did for all them years. Its easy to see why he made the list.

4. Peter Schmeichel

The best goalkeeper of the Premier League generation? In my opinion not many come close. Peter spent 8 seasons at the club and helped them do great things.

His 22 clean sheets in the 1992-1993 season helped United clinch their first top flight league title in 26 years. He was the first name on the team sheet during his time at the club and rightfully so. I have still to this day not seen a keeper make himself so big a target to get past.

Peter finished his United Carrier on the highest note possible with a treble winning season that included the Premier League, F.A Cup and Champions League trophies.

Check back next week for the remainder of the countdown: players 3, 2 and 1 of my greatest Man United players of the Premiership era. Can you guess who’s number one?
