Top 5 Man UTD Players 2/2

In part 1 of this mini-series of great Manchester United players, I put up Roy “Keano” Keane and Peter “The Great Dane” Schmeichel as numbers 5 and 4 respectively.

In part 2 today, the countdown concludes with numbers 3, 2 and 1. So without further ado…

3. Cristiano Ronaldo

With 292 appearances for Manchester United and 118 goals CR7 definitely makes the cut. Cristiano is the best footballer I have ever seen play live in front of my eyes. Watching on TV he still looks head and shoulders above the men around him but those few chances I was lucky enough to watch him demolish defences at Old Trafford were some of the best sporting moments of my life.

He is without doubt a once in-a-lifetime player and the 2007-2008 season is one I will never forget. Scoring an unbelievable 42 goals and single-handedly winning the Premiership for United, it was a joy to watch. Now at Madrid he is showing his class again, leading them to the La Liga title and a Champions League Semi. Nothing would be better than a return from CR7 to his old stomping ground… any chance?

2. Ryan Giggs

In his 22nd year at the club now, Ryan is a real legend and will go down in history as one of the greatest ever Premiership players. The only player to have played in every single season of Premiership football and to have scored in every season too.

He has won 12 Premier League titles, 4 F.A Cups, 4 Football League Cups, 8 Community Shields, 2 Champions Leagues, 1 Super Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 Club World Cup. The lists of honours and records could go on and on with Ryan and he will probably add a few more over the coming seasons. A consummate professional at the age of 39, Ryan Giggs is a living Legend

1. Eric Cantona

The King. Eric was only at the club for 5 seasons; it seems like a lot longer because of all he achieved in the short space of time.

There was always something about Cantona that separated himself from the herd. He was just different, special. He made 185 appearances for United scoring 82 goals.I always look at Eric as the catalyst of what came from then on.

He was such an amazing player and he brought United to to the places they are today. Yes he had his ups and downs and had a bit of controversy from time to time, but what he did on the pitch is what sticks with me. Just a special player. They call him the KING… Its Eric Cantona.
