Skipper's Euro Thoughts 2

In my second of four Euro 2012 blogs I will be looking for a bit of value in the top goalscorer market. This is a market that is close to the heart for your old pal the captain as betting on goalscorers is where I started my punting many years ago.

As in my previous blog we looked for value further down the list at juicy prices; the same theory will be applied here.

Mario ‘the goal machine’ Gomez is the favourite at 8/1. Yes he is a prolific goalscorer for club and country and will be starting up front for the well fancied Germans. But as with the Germans at 3/1 Mario is a little bit short for me at 8′s. He is a worthy favourite but I think we can get him on the deck. The Germans have plenty of other goalscorers in there squad and poor old Mario may have to fight with Bastian Schweinsteiger over the penalty taking duties.

Robin Van Persie is about the right price at 11/1. May be worth a small bet as I fancy Holland to go far in the competition. Holland also come into the competition as the top scoring team with an average of 3.7 goals per game in the lead up. This also reaffirms them as a bet for the outright for me, I love teams who score goals and being a high scoring team is never in the price enough as we learned during the premiership this year.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a monster bet at 50/1. How this guy can be 50′s and the like of Torres (20′s) and Balotelli (25′s) be shorter prices than him? Sweden are so under rated in this competition and there is so much value bets to be had getting with them in every possible way. I will let you in on a little secret, Sweden are the third highest scoring team in the competition just behind Holland and Germany. Zlat is a bet ladies and gents, a big bet!

Last but not least there is Cristiano Ronaldo. Yes he is not a massive price, but there is as much value in backing a 14/1 shot that you make 10/1 as there is a 20/1 shot you make 16/1… maybe even more. I will definitely be getting with Ronaldo e/w here 1/4 1-4. Portugal are fourth top scorers in the competition and Ronaldo is the man with the most impressive goalscoring record in Europe this year.

SKIPPERS BETS

R.V.P 11/1 (Small e/w)
RONALDO 14/1 (Medium e/w)
IBRAHIMOVIC 50/1 (BIG E/W)
