Top 10 Golfers

With the US Open in full swing, I thought I’d take the opportunity in this betting blog to select my 10 favourite golfers of all time. No gambling advice this week, just the 10 guys who make my golfing “world team”:

1. Tiger Woods. He changed the game. He changed the way you bet on the game. I hope he breaks Jack’s record and we can hail him as the best golfer of all time.

2. Jim Furyk. Ugly swing, but the biggest heart in the business. I’ll never forget him getting “up and down” for $11m in the Fed Ex Cup a few years ago.

3. Geoff Ogilvy. No one ever talks about this character, but he was responsible for one of my biggest punting wins on golf and I’ll always have a soft spot for him.

4. Luke Donald. Forget all this not winning a major nonsense. The guy is a class act who’s just been “unlucky” to win on those weeks not designated Major weeks.

5. Ian Poulter. In a way, all the hype over his trousers gets in the way of his supreme talent and confidence.

6. David Duval. His star didn’t shine for long, but boy did it shine brighly. Drive down the middle, medium iron to 8 feet, either hole the birdie putt or two-putt for par. Repeat. Thanking you kindly.

7. Davis Love III. I like this guy so much I still back him every week, even in his mid 40s. A class act.

8. Retief Goosen. Remember when the big four became the big five? As good a clutch putter as I’ve seen.

9. Steve Stricker. He’s made me a pretty penny over the years and always seems to be under the radar.

10. Padraig Harrington. Has the rare ability to get better the harder things are. Loves the big stage and has nerves of steel.
