The Transfer Window

The transfer window in the English Premier League is always a fascinating time.

Is it just me or is most of the mull written about the transfers of players here, there and everywhere just rumours made up by some guy at a news desk telling people what they want to hear? (To sell more papers)

My theory on the transfer window is as follows:

Do not read all the mull of who may be going where. Until pen is set to paper it is all just irrelevant and will just cloud the mind. As I have previously said it is mostly made up to sell more copies of the Sun/Star newspapers.

What I like to do is make a list of people who have 100% signed for a club and then break the relevant signings down into two categories.

Category 1

This list will include Buys and Sells of players that I think will be in the price too much.

An example of this would be if Lionel Messi Signed for Manchester City from Barcelona. (I realise this is very unlikely but just hear me out).

So Messi is now for our purposes a BLUE. Manchester City will shorten massively for the Premiership and Barcelona will drift for next year’s La Liga. Essentially everyone knows these teams are getting significantly better/worse so common knowledge like this will be in the price.

A lot of the time something a big as this will be in the price too much and for me Manchester City may become a Lay at 1/3 and Barcelona could become a Bet at 4/1 for La Liga.

Category 2

This list will be made up of the players that have changed clubs without much talk or that are already under rated players.

Examples of this can be if a Club like Fulham who conceded more goals than they scored last season, but still managed to score 48 and finish 9th in the table, sign two new centre backs that I think can do a job and help them more than the market thinks it will. Small but key signings of non-glamour positions are never in the price enough, whereas a star striker from Brazil is all over the papers and all over the price!

Best Signing So Far

In my opinion the best signing so far in this year’s transfer window was made by Tottenham. And just to give it totally away it was not a player.

Yes in my honest opinion the signing of the year so far has been A.V.B.

Villas Boas this time last year had been touted as the best up and coming manager in years. He was already being compared to the likes of Jose Mourinho and had done unbelievable things during his time at Porto.

It all went wrong at Chelsea and he was prematurely shown the door. If he had been allowed play out the rest of the year as Chelsea boss who is to say they still wouldn’t have done just as well maybe even better? Di Matteo did not change that much when he took over and Chelsea ended up winning the Champions League with A.V.B’s team.

In my opinion Spurs have gotten a steal in getting Villas Boas to the helm and have made the shrewdest signing I have seen in years.
