My Top 5 Gambling and Sports Movies

Published On September 30, 2012 | By dominic | Graham

My other main passion other than punting on Sports is Cinema so I have decided to dedicate my latest blog to the five best occasions when my two main passions collide to produce a movie based around either sport or gambling.

So here in reverse order are my top 5 Films that included either gambling or sport.

5. The Blind Side (2009)

Based on a true story this film captures the journey of Michael Oher from a homeless and distraught young boy to an All American football player for the Baltimore Ravens via a first round draft pick.

Truly Inspirational stuff!

4. The Color Of Money (1986)

A Young Tom Cruise is taken under the wings of Fast Eddie Felson’ played by the legend that is Paul Newman in this Pool Hustling Classic!

3. Champions (1984)

The true story of Jockey Bob Champion and the adversity both he and his horse overcome before an emotional and very memorable triumph in the 1981 Grand National.

2. Jerry Maguire (1996)

‘Show Me The Money’ and all that jazz, this was a superb film with fantastic chemistry between the main characters. Cruise completely flawless as the sports agent forced to go it alone after expressing his moral beliefs that completely go against the cut throat organisation he is employed by and Cuba Gooding Jr. as the NFL wide-out focussing on big numbered contracts to the detriment of his craft. Brilliant from start to finish with a particular highlight being the scenes from the NFL Draft…oh and yes there was some sort of love story in there as well…I think.

1. The Sting (1973)

An incredible story set in 1930’s Chicago where a young con man teams up with a mastermind of big cons to wreak revenge on a criminal banker for the murder of his partner. The best movie ever made in the judge’s eyes..and if you haven’t seen it then go see it..NOW!
