10 to follow for the jumps (Part 1)

It’s that time of year again where we wave goodbye to the flat and my attention is turned to a National Hunt season that promises much so in my latest blog I will mark your card for the Jumps with ten horses who should more than pay their way in the forthcoming season.

Merry King 5-y-o gelding Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill

A fair 4th on his recent Chase debut over an inadequate trip, this likeable individual jumped and travelled nicely until getting outpaced from 2 out. I fully expect him to come into his own when stepped up in trip as his pedigree screams stamina.

Universal Soldier 7-y-o gelding Trainer: Charlie Longsdon

Hosed up in a small field Towcester event on his first start last year before finding the ground too quick when finishing 7th in the 4 miler at the Festival. This lightly raced chaser has bags of potential and I can see him landing a big handicap chase when the emphasis is on stamina.

Minella Forfitness 5-y-o gelding Trainer: Nicky Henderson

Looked a horse with a big future when waltzing away with a Kempton bumper and was then thrown in at the deep end when contesting the Aintree bumper. On that occasion he raced a bit keenly and got shuffled back at a crucial stage inevitably coasting home in 7th. That performance hasn’t diminished my belief he has a very promising future.

Fox Run 4-y-o gelding Trainer: Paul Nicholls

An Irish maiden point winner this classy looking 4 year old made a big impression on his British debut when shooting clear on the run-in to win very easily. He looks bound for better things under the tutelage of the champion trainer.

Real Milan 7-y-o gelding Trainer: Donald McCain

A very talented novice hurdler last season where after two comfortable wins he was sent off co-favourite for a Grade 2 event at Haydock but couldn’t quicken in the desperate ground that day. This well bred gelding looks set to embark on a Chasing career and I will be surprised if he doesn’t take high rank.
