Monday Night NFL Pick

In this week’s betting blog I’m going to tell you why the NY Jets are in a mess. Then I’m going to tell you why they are my pick against the spread for tonight’s match against the Houston Texans.

Let’s run down the problems with the Jets:

They have no NFL level WRs
And one CB
And no pass rush
And no legitimate running game
And about to have a starting QB that everyone says can’t throw the football
With no offensive line
And their LBs are old and slow
And they’ve lost the best CB in the world
And a Pro-Bowl receiver

So why on earth am I backing them against Houston?

Because everything I’ve just said is already in the price!

Betting on the NFL isn’t about picking who is the better team. Houston are the better team. I’m not trying to argue that. They’ve got a great defence, a top-ten QB, a good running game. They’re well-coached and they don’t make stupid mistakes. They look like a top-three team in the League.

But that doesn’t mean they should be laying more then a TD on the road against a team who lie second in one of the tougher divisions in the NFL.

Betting on the NFL isn’t always fun. What’s fun is laying the points and knowing you’ve got Schaub, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and J.J.Watt on your side.

But if you want to make money, put your benjamins down on the team everyone’s writing off. The team that might just put in a bit extra effort tonight as the cream of the AFC comes to town. The team that might have a few tricks up its sleeve.

Hold your nose, reach for the Pepto-Bismol and plump for the Jets. You’ll thank me in the morning.
