Ladies and Gentlemen LET’S PLAY DARTS
I have to say I had a great time at the Lakeside watching the quarter finals of the BDO Darts. The highlight was watching Robbie George coming back from 3-1 down to beat Jan Dekker 5-4 with his Dad Bobby, who I had seen play here in a semi many moons ago, watching from the gantry giving it the bigun. The crowd was really getting behind him and it was a great atmosphere. Robbie seemed to be a very streaky player with a bit of a snatchy throw which went awry for long periods at a time. I wanted him to win the whole shebang but he was found out in the semi where the eventual champion Scott Waites thrashed him 6-1. The other semi on the night featured Scott Waites and he was certainly the most impressive on the night and never looked in trouble.
Twelve of us went with the dress code of Super Mario characters which unsurprisingly has a preponderance of Super Marios the stats being Super Marios 7, Luigis 3, Warios 1, Toads 1. We got a lot of “my kids love Super Mario can we have a picture with you” which had us posing all over the shop. It was Wario that organised the affair but overdid the drinking and was falling over and doing dreadful guffs all night. We ended up in a local pub with 4 dart boards playing our own championship until Wario was asked to leave. It was a great night with quite a few of the Marios being from my uni darts team. At the end of the night we parted with a we mustn’t leave it so long next time and lets meet up for a game of darts sometime soon which we really should do as it would be such a laugh.
We’ll have to get a dartboard in our Irish accommodation and I’ll see if I can get back to my old standard. Playing in the pub I used to be a red hot player, plenty of 180s and big checkouts but it’s all about controlling your nerves in the match atmosphere which on occasion has been my downfall.
Anyhoo cheerio for now.
