Chelsea to test Man City yet again

Plenty of mind games from the Premier League managers this week – not least of which Mourinho who branded Wenger a ‘failure specialist’ but the action on the pitch will talk loudest in the FA Cup Fifth Round.

Mourinho will lead out his men at the Etihad and in theory not have too much to worry about given Chelsea have already completed the double over City this season in the Premier League, the latest success coming just two weeks ago:

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Feb 2014 Premier Man City 0-1 Chelsea
Oct 2013 Premier Chelsea 2-1 Man City
Apr 2013 FA Cup Chelsea 1-2 Man City
Feb 2013 Premier Man City 2-0 Chelsea
Nov 2012 Premier Chelsea 0-0 Man City
Aug 2012 C Shield Chelsea 2-3 Man City
Mar 2012 Premier Man City 2-1 Chelsea
Dec 2011 Premier Chelsea 2-1 Man City
Mar 2011 Premier Chelsea 2-0 Man City
Sep 2010 Premier Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Just three points separate them in the table in favour of City but Chelsea have a game in hand. Chelsea are now unbeaten in 12 games.

Mourinho played down his personal record (7 wins from 9) against Pellegrini managed sides, but conceded that playing the same opponents in the space of 12 days made devising tactics harder than usual.

“It’s not easy to play consecutive matches against the same team, exactly because you try to read the previous game and try to improve things and try to analyse the mistakes and try to analyse the opponent again,” he said.

“The game was very equal. Are we confident? Yes, but I believe they are confident.

“Are they worried? I believe so, but we are too.”

Tough to call – but I’m leaning towards Chelsea on the supremacy.
