Man U v Olympiakos (7.45pm Champions League)

How much more can Man U take of David Moyes?

They are a club who traditionally stay faithful to the man in charge but you have to think that tonight’s second leg Champions League clash against Greek side Olympiakos might prove a ‘final straw’ moment.

And, if the odds mean anything, it will be Olympiakos who progress to the next round – they simply need to hang on with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg to make their first appearance in the Champions League last eight since 1999.

It could easily have been more than 2-0 as Man U were very poor in Greece and indeed also at the weekend when losing 3-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Olympiakos fared much better over the weekend, retaining their Greek Super League title with five games to spare.

It’s not as if Man U are unlucky in defeat at present. They are simply playing poor football and the jokes keep flying around….

oxfam

In days gone by this would be very straight forward for Man U as the head to head records show. But as Bob Dylan sang: Times They Are a-Changin……

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Feb 2014 CLeague Olympiakos 2-0 Man Utd
Oct 2002 CLeague Olympiakos 2-3 Man Utd
Oct 2002 CLeague Man Utd 4-0 Olympiakos
Oct 2001 CLeague Man Utd 3-0 Olympiakos
Oct 2001 CLeague Olympiakos 0-2 Man Utd

An early goal will clearly prove pivotal tonight. The longer it goes on the more desperate United will become which of course may well open the door for Olympiakos to strike again.

Even the team news has gone against Moyes.

Chris Smalling will miss out with a hamstring problem, while fellow centre-back Evans has a calf injury.

Juan Mata is cup-tied having played for Chelsea earlier on in the competition.

Olympiakos striker Javier Saviola is expected to return from injury for the game.

In the circumstances I have to be a seller of Man U supremacy.
