Magath’s magic at Fulham

Houdini would be proud of Fulham and Magic Magath.

The act isn’t quite complete yet, Felix Magath has still to pull the rabbit completely out of the hat – but the 1/12 Fulham to be relegated was cleary an optical illusion in the mists of time.

It’s now an odds-against shot (only just) that Fulham will exit the stage via the trap door but if they could repeat their win of last season against Spurs they will be temporarily out of the bottom three.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Max last 10 only)
Dec 2013 Premier Fulham 1-2 Tottenham
Mar 2013 Premier Tottenham 0-1 Fulham
Dec 2012 Premier Fulham 0-3 Tottenham
May 2012 Premier Tottenham 2-0 Fulham
Nov 2011 Premier Fulham 1-3 Tottenham
Jan 2011 FA Cup Fulham 4-0 Tottenham
Jan 2011 Premier Tottenham 1-0 Fulham
Oct 2010 Premier Fulham 1-2 Tottenham
Mar 2010 FA Cup Tottenham 3-1 Fulham
Mar 2010 FA Cup Fulham 0-0 Tottenham

Magath has earned as many points in eight matches in charge (10) as both Rene Meulensteen and Martin Jol managed in 13 games apiece – so times are a changing at Craven Cottage – the only question still to be answered is whether the turnaround has come too late.

Tottenham look highly unlike to grab a Champions League spot despite the bizarre midweek results with Crystal Palace beating Everton and Man City lucky (in the end) to get a draw against Sunderland.

It’s been a turbulent season for Spurs and at times bizarre. Last weekend they fought back from being 3-0 down against West Brom to finish with a draw. Spurs look doomed for another season in the Europa League (… doomed ??? Surely shome mistkke?).

In the first Premier League match of the weekend (12.45pm, live on BT Sport) expect the unexpected but not a 0-0. None of Fulham’s last 46 Premier League games have ended goalless – the longest current run of all Premier League teams.

A score draw looks more than likely though. And that would be magic for Fulham.

A sell of Spurs and a buy of bookings at a tempting 32 looks the call with Star Spreads.
