York v Fleetwood Town (TAKE TWO !!!)

Miracles do happen in football.

Just ask the supporters of York FC – the ‘Minstermen’.

Just a few months ago for them it was a case of All I Want For Christmas is to escape relegation…..

York were third bottom of League Two at Christmas and frankly things were looking a little grim but Nigel Worthington’s team have shown the most remarkable turnaround.

They have kept 10 clean sheets in their last 12 league games and now haven’t lost in 17 league games.

It’s been a run of form that has propelled them into the play offs – in the end, quite easily, as they finished a full nine points clear of eighth placed Oxford. It’s amazing what winning games can do to your league position (if that’s not stating the bleeding obvious) and a lesson for all teams that hope is not lost at the Christmas halfway point of the season.

York face Fleetwood Town in the first leg of their play off semi-final (LIVE SKY 7.45pm). The match was originally due to be played on Saturday night but a deluge of rain put paid to that.

It’s one win a piece in their two games this season – interestingly both wins coming away from home!

The play offs so far have shown us to expect cagey games, particularly in the first leg matches and I think the same is on the cards for this one.
