Completely bonkers match last night and thankfully I was on the correct side of what was the ultimate ‘Marmite’ match for spread betting. It was either a big win or a big loss, and I’m not sure too much safe ground in between.
What was frightening was the speed of the German goals. I was a seller on the time of the first goal with Star Spreads at 41 minutes and was well rewarded when the first goal from Muller which went in after just 11 minutes.
It’s hard to think we’ll get anything even close to last night’s drama at the Arena de Sao Paulo tonight for Netherlands v Argentina (9pm, ITV).
In fact, after last night, it’s probably got 0-0 written over it?
There’s plenty of World Cup history between these two sides, notably in 1978 when Argentina beat Holland in the final, 3-1.
Worryingly for Argentina, they have a very similar profile to Brazil. They’ve been getting the results without playing great football and it’s a possibility that their game will get as ruthlessly exposed by the Netherlands in the same way that Germany turned on the style against Brazil.
Netherlands will be looking for good news from Robin Van Persie who remains a doubt at the time of writing.
Their star striker has been struggling with a stomach complaint and manager Louis van Gaal said Van Persie would only play if he was completely fit.
For Argentina they will of course be heavily reliant upon Messi who has already scored four goals during the World Cup.
It’s not the strongest Dutch team, which is good news for Argentina who have struggled over the years against the men from Holland:
