My 72 hole matchbet McIlroy/Scott looks ‘so far so good’ but the 18 hole bet with Kuchar was void after he pulled out with a back injury.

Dec 1983 Div 2 (old) Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn
Jan 1982 Div 2 (old) Blackburn 1-0 Cardiff

It’s an interesting first match pitting Blackburn who just missed off on a play-off spot last against Cardiff who drop down to the Championship having finished rock bottom of the Premier League.

Blackburn’s manager Gary Bowyer expects to have a full squad to choose from but it’s not so good news for Cardiff who have just two available centre-backs giving their boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some headaches in defence.

There were plenty of goals when these two sides clashed in the 2012-13 Championship season and both will start the new season with high hopes and dreams of Premier League football again.

Rovers are slow starters though. They have not won any of their opening games for the last three seasons – drawing two and losing one.

However, they ended last season strongly and were unbeaten in their final 12 games, winning six.

Could well be a lively start to the new season and I’m a buyer of total goals.
