S.P. Read Esq. Goodwood Day Five

Published On August 2, 2014 | By S.P.Read Esq. | Star Spreads

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P.Read Esq. looks ahead to the final day of GLORIOUS GOODWOOD on Saturday with a recommended bet on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPread

Jjust a small loss yesterday.

Moviesta ran well to take third and was only a short head away from second – the difference between a profit and a loss on the day for me.

So, the scores on the board so far at Goodwood this week are:

TUES – PROFIT 159 POINTS
WEDS – LOSS 93 POINTS
THUR – PROFIT 27 POINTS
FRI – LOSS 4 POINTS

Star Spreads have the same cracking offer today – if you ‘buy’ a horse on any on the GLORIOUS GOODWOOD races you get the SP added to the index if it wins !!! It’s the offer that has applied to just Channel 4 races but extended to cover all races at the meeting.

When you buy horses you are doing so on the market that pays out:

50 points for a WIN
*** PLUS THE SP BONUS ***
30 points for second
20 points for third
10 points for fourth
0 points for unplaced.

The two I like in theĀ 3.50, the 32Red Cup (Stewards’ Cup) are:

NINJAGO (BUY FOR 3 points at 7)

Ran well when fifth in this last year. Sound chances again off the same mark of 103.

REX IMPERATOR (BUY FOR 2 points at 5)

Winner of this race last year. As we see time and time again course and distance form is so valuable at Goodwood.

It might not be quite so ‘glorious’ Goodwood this afternoon – the rain has arrived and the advice is to pack the brolly.

Rain has also impacted on Galway – there was a lot of rain yesterday and a further 8mm overnight with showers forecast this afternoon.

It’s the final day of Glorious Goodwood and the big race is the Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes. * Note the inclusion of the sponsors names. It’s one of the main bonuses for a sponsor to see their name in lights on the day – just as we like to see the Star Spreads name when we sponsor races.

That however, is a debate for another day.

John Gosden has won this race for the last two seasons and has a live chance again with Sultanina who won a Group 3 at Haydock on only her second start but then found the step-up to Group 2 a step too far when she was beaten into second by stable companion Pomology in the Lancashire Oaks.

Gosden’s other runner Eastern Belle looks most definitely the second string having lost her maiden status with a narrow win in a Listed race at Newbury last time out.

Every drop of rain that falls is likely to help the cause of the French raider Narniyn. Alain De Royer-Dupre’s runner notched up a four timer in France on softer ground before pulling too hard at Saint-Cloud last time out.

In an open race, I’m taking a chance on the proven Group 1 form with Venus de Milo who was second to Thistle Bird in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh last time out. Aidan O’Brien’s runner was second to The Fugue in the Yorkshire Oaks last season and in race where several of these are borderline Group 1 performers she might well have the class to win.
