Our daily columnist and pundit S.P.Read Esq. looks ahead to the lunchtime Merseyside derby LIVERPOOL v EVERTON and finds the best opportunity available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadGreat start to the Ryder Cup and the S.P.Read Esq. bank account too !!

My recommended bet on Star Spreads at the start of the Ryder Cup was a buy of ROSE & STENSON / WATSON & SIMPSON at 4.5 for 12 points.

The European duo made a superb start and the market was settled at 25 which converted into a profit of 246 points !!!

I’m not likely to better that at Gleneagles today so it’s a tactical retreat and back to the football for the small matter of then Merseyside derby at Anfield (12.45pm).

Everton won’t mind the timing of this given Liverpool’s faltering start to the new campaign – and although the marathon penalty shootout against Middlesbrough was memorable – don’t forget it was a match that Liverpool were odds-on to win against their Championship opposition.

Liverpool also made mighty hard work of landing even shorter odds when beating Ludogorets in the Champions League and have tasted defeat in the Premier League so far this season at the hands of Villa, Man City and West Ham.

Sturridge and Suarez seem badly missed from the side that went within a whisker of winning the title last season. Sturridge should be back soon but unlikely to be ready for the high noon kick off today.

As for a bet, I had a look at the bookings market on Star Spreads which looks a little high even allowing for it being the Merseyside derby.

Today’s ref Martin Atkinson has dished out an average of 4.5 yellows (45 on the index) this season but was also in charge of this fixture last season (actually this year in January) and gave out just three yellows.

It’s not a market I want to stake to heavily in but at 49 am happy enough to be a seller.
