International friendlies this week so the fixture list is a little bit like watching paint dry.

Which brings me seamlessly round to the live action tonight – Peterborough v Leyton Orient in the Johnstones Paint Trophy (7.45pm, SKY).

It’s the trophy that pitches the 48 teams from League 1 and 2 into a north/south format, with the final of course at Wembley That’s what it says on the tin but who will have enough gloss to progress tonight (Ed: enough paint references thank you.)

Leyton Orient finished in front of Peterborough last season but it’s a completely different story in the early stages of the new campaign.

The Posh have won four games from five and top the table with Leyton Orient only managing one win from five so far.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has signed Hartlepool striker Luke James for an undisclosed fee. It didn’t quite grab the headlines on the same day that Man U signing Falcao from Monaco but James will be a good acquisition for Peterborough. The 19-year-old scored 14 goals for Hartlepool last season.

Ferguson said: “I am looking forward to working with Luke. It has dragged on a bit, but it is pleasing everything is sorted and he will be in the squad for tonight’s tie with Leyton Orient.”

With home advantage at London Road, Peterborough should be able to continue their flying start to the season and are a buy for me on the Star Spreads superiority market at around 0.25.
