Can often be heard during the ‘numbers round’ during Countdown (yes I am that sad, occasionally) when contestants are invited to show HOW they have arrived at an answer.
It’s something that I have implored spreads players to do as well – rather than just take a view on whether a market is too high or too low – try and quantify it.
You’ll find just writing down predictions will help you.
It’s the start of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster today and I looked through all the races and made a prediction on the winning distances.
Here’s my working out:
2.00 1 length
2.30 2 lengths
3.00 3/4 length
3.35 1 1/2 lengths
4.10 2 lengths
4.45 1/2 length
5.15 3/4 length
That tots up to 8.5 lengths.
I might not be right of course, and in all probability won’t be – but it gives me SOMETHING to compare against the Star Spreads opening position – which in this case is 9.3 – 10.3 lengths.
Given I have arrived at just under the spread, then I feel I have a small edge in selling.
You can then have added fun by comparing your predictions to the actuals during the meeting.
The more accurate you are, the more money you make. After all that’s the skill of sports betting, isn’t it ?
