For Stoke, their midfielder Jonathan Walters will have a late fitness test but Stephen Ireland is set to return to league action after making his injury.
Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is back after missing the Capital One Cup win victory over Crystal Palace but midfielder Mehdi Abeid is suspended having been sent off in that match.
Stoke are not exactly setting the world alight so far this season and have been beaten in both of their home games so far this season and not even managing one goal. However, their away win at the Etihad over Man City was a notable scalp.
