Wow. That was getting it spectacularly wrong.

I was with Fulham last night and, call me old fashioned, was more than happy to see them go 2-0 up at Craven Cottage before conceding a penalty in the final minute of the first half.

Derby duly converted and went on to score another FOUR in the second half to hammer Fulham 5-2.

So much for the Fulham revival which appears short-lived.

Kit Symons, caretaker manager, said after the match (presumably satirically) “We scored two tonight so that’s progress.”

“In the first half we were well and truly in it, but the goal on the stroke of half-time gave Derby a huge lift and top teams don’t need lifts like that.

“We nullified them in the first half but the second half was a different story and Derby punished us.”

So it’s back to the drawing board for tonight.

Man City v Newcastle United
Capital One Cup 4th Round
7.45pm, Live Sky Sports 1

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Maximum 10 matches)
Aug 2014 Premier Newcastle 0-2 Man City
Jan 2014 Premier Newcastle 0-2 Man City
Oct 2013 Capital One Newcastle 0-2 Man City
Aug 2013 Premier Man City 4-0 Newcastle
Mar 2013 Premier Man City 4-0 Newcastle
Dec 2012 Premier Newcastle 1-3 Man City
May 2012 Premier Newcastle 0-2 Man City
Nov 2011 Premier Man City 3-1 Newcastle
Dec 2010 Premier Newcastle 1-3 Man City
Oct 2010 Premier Man City 2-1 Newcastle

My first reaction was than Man City looked too short despite the head to head records saying clearly and simply that Newcastle do not beat Man City.

Man City were dealt a hammer blow on Saturday when beaten by West Ham – whereby Newcastle managed to beat Spurs. What odds was that topsy-turvey double ??

These two teams met at the same stage last year when extra time was needed for Man City to secure a 2-0 win at St James’ Park. Ominously for Newcastle Manuel Pellegrini has a fully-fit squad to choose from including the expected return of Samir Nasri after injury.

On the other hand Newcastle are expected to be without Papiss Cisse, Emmanuel Riviere, Cheick Tiote and Mike Williamson.

I fancy plenty of goals and selling the time of the 2nd match goal makes plenty of appeal with Star Spreads at 50 minutes. I’m clearly hoping by half-time to have locked the profit in.
