Just what the doctor ordered last night. The recommended bet of the buy of bookings came came up trumps. I bought at 39 and it was a make-up of 50 so a healthy 11 point profit on Star Spreads.

Capital One Cup action tonight for the other half of Merseyside as Liverpool take on Chelsea in their 1st Leg Semi Final (LIVE SKY 7.45pm).

I’m finding this tricky to call. If it was a Premier League I’d obviously lean towards Chelsea on current form but the two legged nature of this semi-final, combined with home advantage for Liverpool and the thought that this competition presumably now means a lot more to them given their league position of eighth.

Liverpool remain the most successful club in League Cup history with eight trophies and 11 finals and have a edge on Chelsea across all their head to head encounters.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is seeking his first trophy with Liverpool said: “We see this as an opportunity this season to win a trophy. It’s a group that’s forming – and winning a trophy, a competition, could really bring the future of the team on. Over the last 10 years, [Chelsea] have shown once you win the first one, you can go on and sustain it. They will tell you that first trophy was the most important.”

Both teams are likely to be close to full strength with a Wembley final around the corner, and Chelsea are certainly in with chances of a ‘Quadruple’ given their position at the top of the Premier League table, running deep in both this competition and the FA Cup (need to beat Bradford to reach fifth round) and going strong in the Champions League.

Captain Steven Gerrard is expected to be back for Liverpool after being rested for their previous match against Aston Villa.
