Barcelona welcome Man City to the Nou Camp this evening and the odds suggest that come 9.30pm tonight Everton will be the sole remaining British club left in Europe this season.

Barcelona have a 2-1 lead after the first leg at the Etihad but it could easily have been a lot worse for City after Messi missed his last minute penalty, heroically saved by Joe Hart. In any event, Man City were flattered by the final scoreline as Barcelona dominated for much of the game.

City hardly arrive in Spain in the peak of form. Their, already slim, title challenge hopes took what have have been a fatal blow when they were beaten 1-0 by Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend and come up against a Barcelona side tonight who have now won 16 of their last 17 matches.

Such are the high expectations of Man City these days that manager Manuel Pellegrini is currently under fire to retain his job.

Defeat tonight could easily amplify the dissent. But the 61-year-old said: “I don’t think my seat is in danger. We’re second in the table, still strong and are going to fight.”

Pellegrini came in for criticism for playing two strikers in the first-leg defeat. That seems to have been taken onboard as it’s all change again tonight as City play one up front with Edin Dzeko dropping to the bench. Bacary Sagna plays at right-back and most importantly of all Yaya Toure returns from suspension.

City will need to score at least twice tonight and become only the second English club to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the Champions League since 1992-93.
