S.P.Read Esq: Friday US Masters and Aintree

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the second day on Friday of the US MASTERS and GRAND NATIONAL MEETING and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadNot a great start to Aintree with distances only making up at 23.4 – I was a buyer at 32.

Three more Grade 1’s on Friday’s card but for me the most interesting race is the Grade 2 E-Lites Top Novices’ Hurdle at 2.15.

As we saw yesterday, expecting horses to repeat what they did at Cheltenham cannot always be guaranteed – unless you are Enda Bolger, Nina Carberry or On The Fringe.

Often a horse that by-passes Cheltenham altogether has a stronger chance and I think can be backed up today with the hugely exciting prospect Glingerburn.

Trainer Nicky Richards has always placed more emphasis on Aintree than Cheltenham and has an exciting prospect on his hands with this seven-year-old who is now unbeaten in four starts over hurdles.

His wins have only come at Doncaster and Kelso but he proved he is up to this grade with a win last time out in the Grade 2 Premier Kelso Hurdle, a race in which he travelled well and stayed on strongly.

I am buying Glingerburn on the Star Spreads 50-25-10 market at 24 which basically ensures a profit if he finishes first or second.

A quick word on the US Masters…..

I think Jordan Spieth is the worse 9/4 shot I’ve seen in a long time on the fixed odds.

He’s priced up as if he is six shots clear after day one, not three.

Sure he had a dream round – his opening 64 was only one shot off equalling the course record at Augusta but it will only take a couple of average rounds (not even bad ones) to see his price drift significantly.

I am selling Spieth at 48 on the Masters Leaderboard market on Star Spreads which awards points on the following basis:

1st = 100 points
2nd = 70 points
3rd = 50 points
4th = 40 points
5th = 30 points
6th = 25 points
7th = 20 points
8th = 15 points
9th = 10 points
10th = 5 points
