Barcelona have won 17 of their last 18 matches including a stunning 3-0 first leg success which should be more than enough to have booked their place in the 2015 Champions League Final.
Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are a formidable strike force and to compound problems for Bayern they are without wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben tonight whilst Barcelona are at full strength – a luxury at this stage of a long season.
Not only that, Barca rested five players including Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets but still beat Real Sociedad 2-0 to boost their domestic title hopes.
Bayern boss (and former Barcelona manager) Pep Guardiola said: “The only way we can make the final is by playing better than Barcelona and doing what we did in the second half [of the first leg]. Our only desire is try until the end. We are the Bundesliga champions and we’ve had an extraordinary year, despite some difficulties.”
Barcelona certainly won’t be taking this as a completely formality. After all, the German champions lost the first leg of their quarter-final 3-1 against Porto but came back to win the home leg 6-1.
