S.P.Read Esq: Monday racing from Windsor
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the racing on Monday night from WINDSOR and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Monday night = racing at Windsor (NAP).
A six race card tonight getting underway at 6.20pm on good to firm ground – although there are some fairly ominous clouds hovering at the time of writing.
The maiden at 8.20 looks quite interesting bringing together a trio of well fancied Newmarket trained horses in Atletico (Roger Varian), Time Flies (John Gosden) and Aranka (Luca Cumani).
There’s not too much to choose between the three on the Star Sports market.
I thought Aranka might prefer longer. Luca Cumani’s runners usually come on a bundle for their opening runs so we can expect an improvement on the promising third at Leicester first time out when he was slowly away but staying on to good effect near the line. He wasn’t fancied in the market that day and it was a good effort.
I’m not all together sure that the drop back to six furlongs will suit Time Flies who was a bitterly disappointing beaten 1/3 favourite at Lingfield last time out when runner-up to Intrude. He was previously a good second at Newbury but that was over seven furlongs and given he hasn’t always been the fastest away – he will be penalised by a tardy start here where the battle to the stands-side running rail is often crucial.
That leaves Atletico as the selection. He is very much proven over trip two second placed efforts over six furlongs one of which came here. He also chased home the smart Home Of The Brave at Newmarket and although beaten four lengths the winner went on to be placed in Group company and was the winner of a Listed race. Atletico did finish a full nine lengths clear of the third that day and it looks the best form on offer. The lengthy absence is obviously a concern but the market is suggesting that won’t be a problem.
Buying Atletico on the Star Spreads 50/25/10 race index certainly looks a good option tonight.
I’m sticking with the distances and buying at 8.9 so am looking to average 1.5 lengths and more per race for a profit on the night.
