S.P.Read Esq: Royal Ascot Friday

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the fourth day of ROYAL ASCOT 2015 and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadThe Commonwealth Cup is a new addition to the Royal Ascot Friday card and the six furlong Group 1 sprint looks a belter of a race.

USA trainer Wesley Ward has already struck this week with the remarkable Acapulco in the Queen Mary Stakes and he looks to have an outstanding chance here with Hootenanny who made all to win the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. Ryan Moore is onboard today and he’s doing OK so far this week!

Limato has only met with defeat once in six starts and that was last time out at Haydock where he found Adaay a length too good. I’m not sure why Adaay is priced bigger than Limato today as I fully expect that form to be confirmed and he looks the danger to the selection Hootenanny.

The opening Albany Stakes can give Richard Hannon his second winner of the week with Illuminate. The trainer suffered a reverse in the opener yesterday when both his fancied runners were beaten but Illuminate quickened smartly when making a winning debut at Salisbury and the trainer was very quick to highlight her chances when discussing his hopes for the meeting on Channel 4 earlier in the week.

In the King Edward VII Stakes at 3.05 Ol’Man River has been more Slow Man River this season beating just one horse home in two starts and finishing tailed off in the 2000 Guineas. So far it’s a big fall from grace for the former Derby favourite who looked very smart as a two-year-old but even with the Ryan Moore magic assisting today the jury is very much still out on him.

A better bet might be the David Simcock trained Balios who was well backed on debut and then chased home Best Of Times in a Listed race at Newmarket. He is entitled to continue to improve on only his third racecourse appearance.

In the Coronation Stakes at 4.20 the English and Irish 1000 Guineas runners-up Found and Lucida do battle but maybe ‘found’ out by the French Guineas winner Ervedya who is expected to handle the faster ground.

The distances have been falling short for me so far this week but I am buying again today with the starting spread continuing to fall on Star Spreads. Today I am looking for an average of 1.5 lengths or more to get into profit.

Also keen on the Star Spreads match bet in the 3.05 and am a buyer of STRAVAGANTE / OL MAN RIVER.
