S.P.Read Esq: Aston Villa v Man U

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the 7.45pm kick off on Friday in the Premier League between ASTON VILLA v MAN U and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadThere were certainly a lot more negatives than positives for the big teams on the opening day of the Premier League season.

The biggest shock saw Arsenal beaten 2-0 at home by West Ham and Champions Chelsea were twice pegged back by Swansea City. Chelsea certainly wobbled pre-season and that continued into their first game – a match almost forgotten about in the resulting Dr-Gate aftermath.

Liverpool scrambled home against Stoke whilst Man U needed an own goal from Kyle Walker to beat Spurs.

It all pretty much left the door wide open for Man City who were last to play and took full advantage beating West Brom 3-0 on Sunday.

Neutrals are in for a real treat this weekend with Man City taking on Chelsea on Sunday which, in the context of what happened last week, looks a real cracker – the fixture list computer has played a blinder with that one !

First up though is Premier League action tonight (yes tonight) at Villa Park. It’s been played tonight on police advice but Friday night Premier League fixtures will become more regular next season.

Chatting to Trevor Harris on the Star Sports fixed odds trading desk at lunchtime he reported that Man U were ‘friendless’ ahead of this fixture (although still odds-on) and all the money was for under 2.5 goals.

I’m not too sure I want to be going in too short on under 2.5 goals though. The last 10 games between this pair has averaged 3.5 goals, never mind 2.5 goals. Man U have an exceptionally strong record too at Villa Park – they are unbeaten in their last 19 league matches since the 1995-96 season and that’s a league record they will be keen to preserve.

Both managers don’t have too many injury concerns to worry them. For Aston Villa Rudy Gestede Jack Grealish and Carles Gil are back in training but not fit enough to play.

Man U midfielder Marouane Fellaini remains suspended and Phil Jones is out with mild thrombosis.

For Man U to have title hopes this season their away record has to improve. A fact not lost on manager Louis van Gaal who said: “We were one of the best last season at home, third. I want to create a fortress at Old Trafford, we did that – but away we have to improve and we can improve because last year we were not good.”

Frustrating not to get a profit last night on the bookings with an early red card but nothing else.

I’m a buyer of goals tonight at 2.6 with Star Spreads and going against the general consensus of a low scoring match.
