S.P.Read Esq: CHELSEA v MAN CITY
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the FA Cup game on Sunday between CHELSEA v MAN CITY and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Man City are by no means out of the Premier League race yet but have met with successive home defeats at the hands of fellow title contenders Leicester and Tottenham which might well have been a hammer blow at exactly the wrong time of the season for them. They are now six points adrift of leaders Leicester.
It remains to be seen if they can re-group and frankly have the stomach for the battle, which I somehow doubt, especially as they are in the transition of a new manager with Manuel Pellegrini leaving.
If they are to get their ship steadied in the league they could probably do without the FA Cup and certainly a replay wouldn’t be welcome against Chelsea as they battle out for a place in the quarter finals (LIVE BBC1 4pm).
Chelsea are short for this (shade of odds on) and in contrast to City don’t have a title challenge to worry about. So, on the flip side, a good run for them in the FA Cup and Champions League particularly will be seen as picking up some valuable pieces in what, for them, has been an atrocious League campaign.
The key reason for the prices though are likely team selections. Just like the Bournemouth v Everton game yesterday this is a key factor with Chelsea playing a full strength side and Man City fielding a new formation ahead of their Champions League game on Wednesday.
Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink said: “I will make hardly any changes because we take the FA Cup very seriously. Winning the FA Cup is a prestigious prize in England but also worldwide.”
Chelsea will be without captain John Terry with a hamstring injury.
Pellegrini said: “We have just 13 (senior) players available to play. We have to play Champions League on Wednesday. We’ll see the best team we can play on Sunday. Young players have the option and they must take their chances. For me the priority is always the next game but we must make an exception now because of so many injuries.”
