SPreadAs The Monkees sang famously: “Now, I’m A Believer’.

That’s very much the case for me with a fresh look to the England side who have now lost just one of their last 18 games and were impressive against Germany at the weekend – fighting back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Just when you thought that Hodgson has arrived at a winning formula it will be all change at Wembley as the manager gives chances to a wider range of players who are keen to impress at Euro 2016. For the first time in a long while the England manager appears to have a lot of strength at his disposal.

As impressive as England were on Saturday a big factor was that Germany were a long way short of their best form and it’s likely that the Netherlands will be another side who prove a shadow of their former selves tonight.

It’s still incredible to think that the orange army failed to qualify for the Euros and look to me like a team in turmoil, rather than transition. They have been leaking goals – conceding 12 in their last five matches.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to back in the England side, winning his first cap in 537 days after not being used when on the bench in the game against Germany.

Sturridge’s Liverpool team-mate James Milner will captain the side for the first time but we’re still not sure how widespread the other changes will be.

Hodgson said: “There will be some changes, how wholesale those will be you’ll have to wait and see.”

“Daniel Sturridge will come into the team on this occasion, we’re pleased to welcome him back after his long lay-off at least from England duty.”

“The other changes, we’ll have to wait and see and I’d prefer not to dwell on that side of things.”

Goalkeeper Jack Butland faces a lengthy lay-off after confirmation that he fractured his ankle just before Germany’s opening goal on Saturday.

Rooney is still injured and Hodgson said. “Wayne Rooney is experienced enough to realise there will be other players fighting to get in the team. There are a large number of people fighting for a small number of places.”
