S.P.Read Esq: Liverpool v Spurs

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to the Premier League clash on Saturday between LIVERPOOL v SPURS and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadThe Premier League returns on Saturday. Slightly mooted sentence I must admit but with the opening game of the weekend being Aston Villa v Chelsea I can hardly bill it as ‘exploding’ back into action.

They three key matches are all being played at different times so it’s now a game of poker with the three remaining players Arsenal, Spurs and Leicester all still with chips in front of them. The Foxes have the advantage of being last to act safe in the knowledge of the fate of their two chasing rivals.

Leicester are coping admirably with the pressure but I’m not sure there is that much pressure. To feel pressure, they need to be put under pressure and the story of the season so far has been Leicester quietly getting on with their business whilst those around them clatter the Chair, Becher’s Brook and Valentines (… and you can guess from these analogies what’s around the corner this time next week !).

Of the three title contenders Spurs have by far the biggest assignment on paper this weekend and will be under the most pressure, particularly if Arsenal get all three points (as expected) against Watford at the Emirates in the earlier 3pm kick off.

Spurs have a wretched recent record against Liverpool – their last five encounters have produced an incredible aggregate score of Liverpool 15 Spurs 2. Going further back The Reds have lost just one of their last 21 Premier League home matches against Spurs (W14, D6).

On the plus side for Spurs backers is the fact that they are playing some of their best football in recent history. Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino said: “We need to give the credit to Leicester. They are top because they deserve to be. From the beginning of the season they were fantastic. We cannot take the credit from them. We are in a very good position but we cannot compare with another team. We need to fight. We have seven games and it’s important to fight until the end of the season with the possibility to achieve good things.”

Liverpool will be boosted by the return of James Milner (suspension) and Alberto Moreno (hamstring) but will be without the services of Roberto Firmino (hamstring) and Christian Benteke (knee).
