S.P.Read Esq: AFC Wimbledon v Plymouth Argyle

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Monday’s League Two play-off final at 3pm between AFC WIMBLEDON v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

Leicester’s exploits this season quite rightly grabbed the national headlines but the heroics of Burton Albion (promoted to Championship) and AFC Wimbledon – today’s League Two finalists are equally as impressive in their own way.

AFC Wimbledon are the proverbial phoenix who have risen from the ashes – formed 14 years ago when supporters rejected the transplantation of the club to Milton Keynes and the new embryo of a club started playing football again in the parks of Merton. Any lower and it would have been jumpers for goalposts stuff.

And now Neil Ardley, a former original Wimbledon player, will lead his side out onto the hallowed field of Wembley for a 3pm date with Plymouth for the right to be in League One next season.

Audley said: “I don’t buy into that idea that it’s only another game, that you don’t play the occasion, you play the game.”

“Nobody can replicate Wembley. When we walk out, I’ll be proud, my emotions will be all over the shop. I’m going to be feeling the butterflies and the players will feel the same. But once we’ve walked out, put our shoulders back, smiled, gone ‘wow’, we’ve got a job to do. We’ve got to take all of that in, embrace it, accept it and then go and play the game.”

Plymouth finished six points ahead of Plymouth in the regular season but the play-offs can be cruel that way.

What might more pertinent is that the two sides finished 4-4 on aggregate in their two games – away wins on both occasions.
