S.P.Read Esq: Chelsea v Spurs

What a life to be a Leicester City supporter at the moment. A few beers, a BBQ (OK maybe not THAT warm on this Bank Holiday Monday) and settle back to watch the action unfold at Stamford Bridge knowing that the Foxes are odds-on to win the Premier League title without even playing.

One result I don’t think it can be tonight is a DRAW. With Spurs needing the win to keep their own (faint) title chance alive it really is a case of all or nothing. Far better to go down fighting – which might of course leave the back door open for Chelsea to take advantage.

Certainly Spurs have picked the right moment to try and beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for the first time ever in the Premier League era !!

Spurs will need to play a heck of a lot better than they did when drawing 1-1 with West Brom last week when they did a better bottling job than Coca Cola. Spurs seemed to get stage-fright and if anything West Brom looked the more likely winners in the closing stages.

Chelsea could still have a massive say in the outcome of the title. Their final match of the season is against Leicester on 15 May. Who wrote the script?

Chelsea have lost two of their last three Premier League games but tonight is a bit of a one off given what’s at stake and should ensure a more fiery London derby than normal.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink said: “We desperately want to win the next game, which is Spurs, and then there are massive games against Sunderland, Liverpool and Leicester after that. It’s normal to have scrutiny from the press because you are playing in the limelight. We want to fulfil our obligations now, and in the upcoming games. I cannot guarantee the result but I can guarantee that the effort will be there, and not just on Monday.”

Spurs will be without Dele Alli as he begins a three match ban for violent conduct and Nabil Bentaleb remains out with a knee injury.

Chelsea defenders John Terry and Gary Cahill are expected to be back after injury and illness respectively.
