S.P.Read Esq: Real Madrid v Man City

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Wednesday’s Champions League game at 7.45pm between REAL MADRID v MAN CITY and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

Last night’s match reinforced one thing for me. At this stage of the tournament there are no easy matches and for those thinking of taking short odds about Real Madrid should also consider that Real have only beaten Man City once in three previous encounters and that was by a narrow 3-2 margin in 2012.

It finished all square at the Etihad last month which gives Man City a real chance – especially with the away goals proving so valuable.

Real Madrid are long odds on to qualify but we might well be in for a long night.

The most crucial piece of team news (to the chagrin of City fans) is that Cristiano Ronaldo is fit and likely to start.

The striker missed the first leg with a hamstring strain but Real boss Zinedine Zidane said yesterday: “Cristiano is OK, 100%. He trained this morning and will be there.”

Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini reacted by saying: “Cristiano will always be a different player. He scores a lot of goals and has throughout his six years here. I don’t think Real are just Cristiano Ronaldo. We must work as a team defending and attacking. It is not just against Ronaldo but against Real Madrid.”

Man City have already reached new Champions League levels but may find the Bernabeu one step too far in their bid to get to the final to face Atletico Madrid. I’m sure they’ll raise their game for this, but overall I’ve been pretty disappointed with City recently and they looked a shadow of their former selves when beaten 4-2 by Southampton on Sunday.

Even allowing for the fact that this match would have been their bigger priority it’s still not exactly the best form for them to be heading to Spain in.
