S.P.Read Esq: Belgium v Republic Of Ireland (Euro 2016 Saturday)

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Saturday’s Euro 2016 action and the 2pm match between BELGIUM v REPUBLIC OF IRELAND and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

Republic Of Ireland meet Belgium in the 2pm kick off in Group E on Saturday and Italy’s late winner against Sweden on Friday was an early gift for the ROI.

Ireland will open up a gap between Sweden and Belgium if they can take all three points.

Belgium were the ‘official’ top-rated side (by FIFA mind you!) heading into the tournament but looked dysfunctional when losing their opener 2-0 against Italy. Their critics say they they are a talented team of individuals but just don’t gel as a team and on the evidence of that game I’d have to agree.

Certainly, I couldn’t entertain backing them at odds-on for this match at the Stade de Bordeaux.

Ireland suffered a nightmare in their opener with the own goal from Ciaran Clark but at face value a 1-1 draw with Sweden isn’t the worst result in the world and they just need to put that match at the back of their minds.

Despite the fact that the Republic of Ireland have never beaten Belgium in a competitive match (D5, L2) I think there is value and reasons for supporting them in their first major tournament meeting.

All doesn’t look well in the Belgium camp. Their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois criticised head coach Marc Wilmots in a post-match interview, saying Italy had “tactically outclassed us.”

Not only that midfielder Radja Nainggolan was caught gesturing behind his coach’s back after being substituted.

It doesn’t sound as though it’s a happy camp, or that it will take much to push them over the edge and I’m taking a Star Spreads trade on the time of the second Irish goal selling at 84.
