S.P.Read Esq: England v Portugal

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Thursday’s international friendly at Wembley between ENGLAND v PORTUGAL and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

As the Euros get closer, the friendlies seem to take on considerable LESS importance for me.

Whilst a win is always good for momentum heading into a major tournament, the truth is that no team are going to be busting a gut to win or, more importantly, want to risk injury with their French trip about to start.

Add into the mix managers experimenting with new ideas and it’s a pretty awful concoction for punters to get their heads around.

Certainly some of the international friendly results over the past few days have defied any kind of logic.

If that sounds like a disclaimer heading into tonight’s England v Portugal match at Wembley…. I’m afraid it’s meant to be. I can see this ending up 0-0 or 3-3 !!!

It’s the final warm-up game for both sides with England set to travel to their Euro 2016 base in Chantilly on Monday.

For Portugal Ronaldo is missing tonight but that’s not connecting Portugal’s coach Fernando Santos who said: “I don’t understand why we always have to talk about Ronaldo. I’m not in the least bit worried about him. He’ll be here next week with the goal of helping Portugal have a great Euro 2016. The rest is just journalist talk.”

Portugal arrive in reasonable form having beaten Norway on Sunday when they were also without Ronaldo.

I’ll stick with a buy of the first match goal – a trade that paid off nicely on Monday in the AFC Wimbledon v Plymouth game.
