S.P.Read Esq: England v Russia (Euro 2016 Saturday)

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Saturday’s Euro 2016 action and the match between ENGLAND v RUSSIA and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

France got there in the end last night with a deserved win but it was hard work and I can already see very few easy games in this year’s tournament with all the traditional ‘big’ European teams a little off their best.

I’m probably the biggest England cynic going when it comes to football but even I have been impressed by the dramatic turnaround in form since the Brazil World Cup and for the moment, just like The Monkees, I’m a believer.

England’s path to the quarter finals looks fairly straightforward and a repetition of their form leading into this should easily be good enough to reach the last eight. England were the only team to win ALL of their Euro 2016 Qualifying matches – scoring plenty of goals along the way.

In contrast, their first opponents in Group B, Russia, have only won one of their last five games.

Roy Hodgson seems to have got the delicate balance right between youth and experience right with the new emphasis very much on youth. They have the joint-youngest squad in the tournament.

Hodgson’s starting XI will be very revealing – and the gossip is that Jamie Vardy could be dropped – despite his superb domestic season with Champions Leicester.

Chris Smalling, Gary Cahill and Ryan Bertrand have all received treatment for minor injuries this week but are expected to be available.

I got the vital 3rd goal in the France game but at 89 minutes it came far too late in the day. The spread on this market again tempts me here, set at 79 for sellers of which I am one on Star Spreads.
