S.P.Read Esq: Slovakia v England (Euro 2016 Monday)

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Monday’s Euro 2016 action and the 8pm match between ENGLAND v SLOVAKIA and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

And STILL we await a team to make some kind of move in this tournament.

They are either all playing their cards close to their chests or, more likely, they are all much of a muchness.

Cue the France v Switzerland game last night when the BBC genuinely struggled to find ANY highlights from the complete 0-0 bore draw.

At least the Portugal 0-0 draw had the Ronaldo entertainment factor.

In some ways you can’t blame teams for now having one eye on the knockout phase but there’s plenty still to play for with Group placements determining quality of opponents to come. England need just a point against Slovakia to secure a place in the last 16 but a win would ensure they top Group B.

I’ve held off the preview for tonight until seeing the team news from Roy Hodgson.

As widely expected he has made six changes for England with a starting XI of:

Hart, Clyne, Cahill, Smalling, Bertrand, Wilshere, Dier, Henderson, Lallana, Sturridge, Vardy.

It’s a puzzling and risky line-up – especially given England still have work to do and most significant of all no Wayne Rooney who is being rested / rotated. The England team has generally been in good shape so tinkering rather than wholesale changes might have been a better option – it’s hardly the time for experiments.

Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge both performed heroics when coming off the bench in the Wales game and start this time.

Slovakia will finish top if they defeat England and Wales fail to beat Russia. The Slovaks will finish above Wales if they better their result.

In other words, plenty for both sides to play for and there could at last be plenty of goals.

After all, it’s NEVER easy for England. Is it?
