S.P. Read Esq: Corking good trades

Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Tuesday’s racing at CORK and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.

SPreadA small loss at Windsor last night on the distances.

However, given one of the races made up at six lengths it was a pretty pathetic effort on my part not to get the trade into profit 🙁

Mick Channon is putting the miles in today when taking Harlequeen to Cork for the Group 3 Give Thanks Stakes at 8.35.

She surely deserves to pick up a prize like this after finishing third in both the Epsom and Irish Oaks.

She was beaten at tonight’s Group 3 level at York earlier in the season but that came in the Musidora Stakes won by So Mi Dar and that looked a much stronger race than tonights. Just like M&S mince pies….. there are Group 3’s and then there are Group 3’s.

Harlequeen could easily still find further improvement on only her sixth start of her career and holds Aidan O’Brien’s Somehow on both Epsom and Curragh Oaks form.

O’Brien’s other runner Best In The World might have to be referred the Advertsing Standards Authority as, so far at least, she isn’t living up to her lofty name.

Joseph O’Brien’s Arya Tara bids for a five-timer but this, by far, is her toughest task to date.

Dermot Weld has a terrific record in this race – winning three of the last four – and the biggest danger may come from Shamreen who was a good second to Pretty Perfect in the Munster Oaks. However, Pretty Perfect was tailed off in the Irish Oaks so you’d have to be pretty confident that the selection Harlequeen will have her measure.

Whilst it’s a very competitive market there’s not much fat in selling – so again I’m a buyer in the hope we get at least one wide margin winner. And Harlequeen might just be the girl for that job.
