S.P. Read Esq: Longing for Windsor distances
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Monday’s racing at WINDSOR and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Monday night can only mean one thing. Racing by the Thames at Windsor.
Tonight’s seven race card gets underway at 5.30pm on good ground which has been watered.
Expect an outcry if the heavens open today which they are widely reported to if the forecasters can be believed.
The BBC weather service is predicting: “More general rain will spread east during the afternoon, becoming more persistent and locally heavy in the west by evening.”
That could lead to several non-runners on tonight’s card.
The NAP on the card looks to be the William Haggas trained Julia Dream – especially as she has already proven at Salisbury that she can handle cut in the ground when runner-up to the John Gosden trained hot-pot Sovereight Parade on ground that was good to soft and soft in places.
She went even closer last time out when denied a neck by the Sir Michael Stoute trained Haddajah.
In short, she has bumped into a couple of well above average sorts and should finally get her chance tonight.
Dean Ivory’s Blaze Of Hearts ran well here last time when a 66/1 runner-up and looks the danger.
The Star Spreads trade however could well be a buy of distances in the hope and expectation that changing weather can bring about some wide margins with a combination of non runners and horses not running to form on ground that they weren’t entered up on.
