S.P. Read Esq: Slovakia v England
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Sunday’s World Cup Qualifier between SLOVAKIA v ENGLAND and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Sam Allardyce’s tenure as England manager begins with a tricky World Cup Qualifier against Slovakia.
I say ‘tricky’ and that would apply against virtually any opposition given England’s woeful performance at Euro 2016 culminating in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Iceland which sent England packing.
These two actually met in France and shared a 0-0 draw and I can hardly think there will be many goals today either.
How much work Allardyce will have done to change things is debatable with the timing of this match clashing with the start of the Premier League and the players focus presumably firmly fixed on that.
Slovakia have lost just once in 14 international matches played at home and will be a stern test for an England team who are expected to be 72% (8 from 11) the same as their ill-fated last match against Iceland.
Allardyce said: “I can only focus on this game and hopefully the fans who watch on TV and that are here go home very happy or are turning the television off saying England are back on track and looked great.
“Everyone will want us to win. Some will expect us to win but I don’t think it will be that easy based on Slovakia’s record.
“Winning is what we want. If the nation thinks that’s the only thing we can have to make us feel better, we’ll try. But personally, if we get a draw from the most difficult game of the group, I’ll be happy.”
