S.P. Read Esq: England v Spain
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Tuesday’s friendly at Wembley between ENGLAND v SPAIN and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Heaven only knows how seriously either team will be viewing this friendly – rather oddly sandwiched between World Cup Qualifiers and the resumption of the Premier League campaign. The only benefactors would appear to be the FA and, talking of sandwiches, ‘charge what you like for a hot-dog’ Wembley Stadium.
The FA’s website tries hard to inflate the status of their hot-dogs “authentic Bavarian hog skin hot dog served with cooked onions, mustard seeds and fresh chives” but, just like the national side, the hype doesn’t quite live up to the experience.
Anyway, it’s a sell out at Wembley so what the heck do I know?
One thing is for certain. Spain are no Scotland and England may struggle even against a sub-strength Spanish side. I was far from impressed by England despite betting a woeful ‘pink’ Scotland 3-0.
England’s final match of 2016 points towards a draw. England have not conceded since the Euros and Spain have kept clean sheets in five games this season. Something has to give. Or maybe not and 0-0 might well be an option.
For England, Rooney is injured so midfielder Jordan Henderson will again wear the captain’s armband.
Harry Kane also misses the match through injury but Southgate seems intent of not making mass changes.
He said: “There’s any different number of ways we can approach the game. For me, it’s an opportunity to build on the way we are playing. It’s a great challenge in terms of a different style of game.
“It’s a game we have to get tactically right, the way we press and use the ball.
“We want to build on last few performances, which I think have improved the detail of how we want to play.
“I don’t want to make loads of changes. If we don’t keep some consistency then we are not building and are starting again almost.”
Spain are likely to field a sub-strength side which would be a concern if you are in a ‘Viva Espana’ mood as even at full-strength they look a long way short of their best.

I’ll settle back and hope for corners in the hope that there will be plenty of chances, if not goals.

After all something has got to pay for the authentic Bavarian hog skin hot-dogs at full-time.
