Another night of Champions League football with the highlight being Spurs v CSKA Moscow at their temporary home of Wembley !!
Spurs edged the first fixture 1-0 in Moscow and should feel more at home (and warmer) tonight.
It’s all about the Europa League tonight for Spurs whose Champions League dreams ended when they were beaten by Monaco but if they avoid defeat tonight they will be assured Europa League football next season.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino wants that exact scenario to happen: “I believe that it’s important for the club to be involved in the Europa League.
“We didn’t play well in the Champions League at Wembley. But it’s important for us to be involved in the Europa League. Why not try to go further in that competition?
“It’s true that it’ll be tough to be involved in the Europa League again, but if we don’t show we deserve to qualify for the Champions League, then our responsibility is to go to the Europa League to go further in the competition.”
I can’t see CSKA being too problematic. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their past nine Champions League games against English clubs and conceded at least one goal in an astonishing 27 consecutive Champions League fixtures.
