S.P. Read Esq: Aintree Day One
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to racing on Thursday and the start of the AINTREE FESTIVAL and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
Beware the C-word is my Aintree watchword this week.
Over the years Aintree has been a graveyard for horses that arrive on the back of wins and big runs at the Cheltenham Festival but then go on to flop on Merseyside.
Their runs can defy logic but it is logical really:
- Relatively short gap between the two Festivals and recovery time limited
- Horses often trained with primary focus of Cheltenham with Aintree as their Brucey bonus
- Bounce factor – horses putting in a below par performance on the back of a big effort in the top grade
- Varying ground – as this year, the ground is often quicker at Aintree
- Different tracks – both left-handed but that’s where the similarity ends. Aintree is a billiard table compared with Cheltenham
The best Star Spreads trade of the day could be a buy of distances at 39.
So am looking for an average of 5.5 lengths per race which we might well get – but not necessarily by the Cheltenham good things.
