S.P. Read Esq: Ayr Distances
Our daily columnist and pundit S.P. Read Esq. looks ahead to Monday’s racing at AYR and finds the best opportunities available on Star Spreads, the home of sports spread betting.
A buy of distances at Ayr this afternoon looks a good call to me, especially with Star Spreads running their daily promotion on the Ayr card with tighter margins.
Tighter margins are great on the spreads but I could do without tight margins on the racetrack and am looking for a few wide margin winners.
There are so many factors to consider when buying (or selling) distances and the first thing I would say to any punter (and this applies to EVERY single spread market) is to make your own opinion first on what you think the market will finish at.
It’s only this way you can consider to go higher or lower when you see the actual market.
If you find yourself bang in line with the market then it’s basically telling you there is no edge.
This afternoon is a good example. I have gone through all seven races and am predicting total winning distances of around 14 lengths.
The Star Spreads line is set at 9.3 – 10.1 so naturally I’m interested as a buyer (10.1) at those levels, with a profit of 3.9 points if I’m spot on.
The key race will be the opener – the only non-handicap on the card and featuring a short price favourite in Regulator who shaped well on debut at Beverley. I really need at least three lengths from this race (but I’m greedy so will happily accept more!).
The final race also looks good potential for distance buyers. Just six runners and apprentice riders over a long 1m 5f. This can be good combo with the inexperienced riders not getting pace right and leading to elongated distances at the jam stick.
